Sal Esposito has been summoned for jury duty.
That’s not usually a news item. But most people who are called for jury duty are people. Sal Esposito is a cat.
When the summons arrived, Guy Esposito, Sals owner, said, “Sal, whats this?” Sal just sniffed the envelope and turned away.
“You know, I dont believe it. I was shocked, said Guy.
Guy and his wife Anna think they know how Sal landed in the pool of potential jurors.
Anna explained that since Sal really is a member of the family, she listed him under pets on the last Census form. “I just wrote Sal Esposito, scratched out the dog, and wrote, ‘cat,'” said Anna.
The Espositos filed a request for Sal’s disqualification from jury service, citing the facts that he is a cat and cannot speak English. The request was denied.
So, if the issue has not been resolved by March 23rd, the date Sal is due in court, Sal will report for duty at Suffolk Superior Court. That is, if Anna can get Sal out from under the bed.
