Aw, these cats have powers! If you’ve been to the animal shelter lately, you may have heard about FIV, a virus affecting cats that works similar to the HIV virus in humans. Japanese scientist have modified DNA from HIV-immune monkeys so that they can grow in kittens, and combined it with glowing DNA from jellyfish. The glow (only visible under black light) lets the scientists know that the gene splice ‘took’– the resulting glowing kittens then immune to the FIV virus! This could help eliminate the disease in cats as well as the human equivalent! Aside from their immunity and glowing powers, the kittens grow up normal and healthy.
