Do you remember Mr. No Ears, the Lion King of Albufeira? He’s the stately one-eyed feral cat in charge of a colony based at the Rocamar Hotel in Portugal who we reported on earlier this year. Well, it turns out that he might have been kicked out of the hotel after complaints.
Taking to Facebook to explain the timeline of the story, Lesley Normington (who runs the Amigos dos Gatos do Algarve charity that helps care for Mr. No Ears and his kitty cohorts), says the Municipal Vet ordered the removal of the cat after receiving a complaint from the hotel.
An outcry over the rumored removal of Mr. No Ears led the hotel put forth its side of the story, claiming that a City Hall vet had demanded the move.
Normington then met with the hotel and updated the situation. The palaver now involves a waiter who was alleged to have remarked to the city vet how he sometimes has to wipe down the tables in an outdoor seating section of the hotel’s restaurant because Mr. No Ears and his pals sit on them. The waiter claims he made the remark as a comment, not a complaint, though.
So where does this leave Mr. No Ears? Well, at the moment he seems to be somewhere at the vet’s facility, awaiting what Normington calls “a comedy of errors” to resolve itself. As for how he’s taking it? Normington writes, “Mr. No Ears drank water and ate dry food today. He is not hiding behind the toilet — he is sitting in his basket with his head bowed, looking sad.”
Happily though, the latest Facebook update suggests that a hopeful solution is on the horizon.
