According to the calendar, it’s almost spring — allegedly. Deep into February, winter still feels endless. In Kansas City, we’re staring down a snowy weekend and single-digit temperatures, and I’ve heard from multiple sources that we have a chilly March in our future. I know it’s not as bad as Boston, but last week I Googled “sleeping bag suit with sleeves.” That’s all I’m saying.
That’s why I can relate to the cats in these videos, who find a warm patch of sun and never give it up, kind of like that guy who snags the best seat in the whole coffee shop and stays there all day. These kitties know a long winter’s nap is the key to happiness.
1. Heat-seeking hedonists
This amazing time-lapse video of a kitty cluster (it’s hard to tell how many there are — 10, maybe?) following a patch of afternoon sunlight across the floor proves that cats really are furry little hedonists to the core.
2. Better than meditation
Next time you take a break at work, learn from Sassy the cat’s relaxation ritual. Even though this video only chronicles 20 minutes of what was surely a long and fruitful afternoon nap, she seems to get more out of it than I do in a full eight hours.
3. Working hard to be lazy
Over the course of the day, Riker the cat goes through a lot of trouble to keep up with the sun puddle as it slides across the floor. Typical cat, putting forth maximum effort to ensure his eight-hour nap is as comfortable as possible.
4. He has emerged
The warm patch of sunlight on the bed in the middle of the day is reason enough for this handsome orange tabby to emerge from his blanket fort and enjoy sleeping in a different place.
5. He’s not dead; he’s just sleeping
This sunbathing kitty is so utterly relaxed that I would worry about him if not for that striped tail swishing back and forth, reminding me that he is still alive.
