A Devon, UK, man recently got his just desserts after cooking, drying, and freezing a cat.

A friend filmed Colin Sherlock with a cell phone as Sherlock picked up the cat, named Roxy, and put her in a microwave, a tumble dryer, and a freezer.

Sherlock, who had been drinking, was laughing as he tortured the cat.

First, Sherlock put Roxy into a microwave oven and turned it on for eight seconds. He then he put her in the dryer, where she spent seven seconds, and finished by putting her in the freezer for 20 seconds before taking her out and dunking her into a bucket of dish water.

The person filming Sherlock’s behavior sent it to friends, one of whom was so appalled that she took it to the police.

In court, Sherlock, 44, admitted to causing unnecessary suffering to a cat and was jailed for 126 days.

Prosecuting attorney John Wyatt said Roxy was too cold to run away when she was taken out of the freezer. The cat, which belonged to one of Sherlock’s relatives, is now “extremely nervous,” having suffered “serious mental trauma.”

Defense attorney Alisdair James said Sherlock was “gutted” by what he had done.

Sherlock had admitted responsibility when he was interviewed by the police, but said he could not explain his behavior other than to say he had been drinking.

Magistrate Marigold Seager-Berry said when she handed down her judgment that “the offense is so serious that only custody is justified because of the high level of cruelty imposed on the cat. It caused serious harm and torture to a domestic cat, causing it lasting mental trauma.”

Jim Farr, an RSPCA inspector, said: “I am pleased with the sentence. It sends out a clear message that anyone who carries out acts of cruelty will face justice.

“Roxy is now in foster care because of the after effects of this trauma and she is not yet ready to be rehomed,” Farr said. “She is progressing well, but there may be long term effects of being put into the microwave.”
