Catster HQ Takes the Bing It On Challenge

At Catster, it's a constant search for the perfect kitty pics. The folks at Bing swore they'd get us better results than Google -- so we took them up on it.

If you read Catster, it's probably fair to assume you enjoy spending a good portion of your spare time ogling cat photos online. So do we. We are always on the lookout for the perfect images to accompany our stories. And we know when you're searching for cat photos, you want to view only the best (read: the most ridiculous and cute).

Our cat-ogling time is precious; we want to find the photos that will best tickle our whiskers. But are all search engines created the same?

Well, we were surprised to learn that in blind tests, people apparently preferred Bing over Google for the Web's top searches. The BingItOn.com test allows users to compare unmarked Web searches from Bing and Google side-by-side. For five searches, users choose their preferred results. After all five searches are completed, the site reveals which search site you liked more.

Because Catster's editors and writers have to make critical cat photo-related decisions every day, Bing invited us to take the Bing It On challenge. We accepted! Although this post is sponsored by Bing (could you guess that yet?), all the opinions expressed here are our own.

Well, shiver me timbers, that's one cute kitty hat! Black Cat in Pirate Hat by Shutterstock

So, let's give it a try!

Challenge No. 1: Sleepy kittens

Let's say Mr. Boots tipped a macchiato into our fancy new bag and now we want to seek solace by looking at the cutest available sleepy kitten photos. We access BingItOn.com and type "sleepy kittens" in the search bar. Here are our side-by-side results. We simply review the results and choose our favorite by clicking one of the boxes at the top of the page.

So much sleepy kitty goodness, but which images are more squee-worthy?

The kitten in the shoe definitely wins us over -- we choose the search engine on the right.

Kittens sleeping in footwear? Yes, please!

Challenge No. 2: Funny kittens

Now we need to empty the dishwasher, but kitty is sleeping so peacefully in our lap. We couldn't possibly disturb him, so why not nix the dishes and instead look at funny kitten photos?

Looking at funny kitten photos is a great way to pass the time!

Although the kitties on the left are cute, captioned cat photos win this one.

I can haz funny cat pics?

Challenge No. 3: Cutest kitten photos

We've just been stood up by that cutie we met on the dating site. No worries -- grab a pint of rocky road and look search for "cutest kitten photos." All better.

No lack of adorable kittens, but which make the cute cut?

Do you see the kitten sleeping on the pink satin? We have a winner!

The faces! The paws! The fluff!

Challenge No. 4: Cats in pet costumes

Halloween! We want funky fresh ideas for the feline festivities! Let's search for cats in pet costumes!

Such great costumes, but we definitely see a winner!

Who can say no to a cat in a Snow White costume? I mean, seriously.

And then there's the cat rocking the orange ensemble.

Challenge No. 5: Fuzzy cats

It's cold and rainy outside and we're snuggled up with some cocoa and and our favorite fleece blanket. What could be cozier? Looking at photos of fuzzy cats, of course!

So much fuzz, so little time!

We were totally taken by the giant orange cat on the far left. He must be snuggled. Now.

Lots of warm fuzzies going on here!

And the winner is ...

Five searches are completed and now it's time to see the results! Which search engine did we prefer for our pussycat pics? Drumroll, please!

The results are in!

We chose Bing over Google four out of five times. How about you? Take the challenge at www.BingItOn.com and let us know what cat terms you searched for in the comments below!
