Hi, My name is Moochy (398034) and my Momma used to take me to the groomer's, because my fur tends to get very matted (I am a Himalayan) The first time we went there, I did not mind too much; I was there all by myself, & Momma held me still, while the lady ran the clippers over my fur, and did a "Lion" cut on me.
The following year, We went in at a little later time of day, and there were several yappy dogs there. Because there were only "curtains" between the rooms, instead of doors, you know I got very "anxious". The dogs scared me, because I am not used to being around them.
Then I got really scared, and I was wiggling all over the place, and the one lady called her partner in to help.
Well, the one girl literally had to "straddle" me, while Momma helped to hold me, and the other girl finished clipping me. I was going "Ballistic"!!
So Momma promised me, "never again", and she purchased a very nice set of clippers, at PetSmart (ANDIS AG~1) and she has been attempting to clip my fur, since then.
Because she is all by herself, it sometimes ends up looking sort of "funny", like the equivalent of a "Bad Haircut", but I am still alot cooler, in the hot summer months, here in the California desert.
But I "forgive" Momma, because I know she is trying her "best", and also, these clippers are very quiet, and there are no dogs around, to scare me!

My kitties groom themselves. Since none of them have long fur that would become matted, we don't find it necessary to take them to be groomed.

My mum is a Purrfessional Dog and Cat Groomer so Im use to baths ,Hairdryers, etc. So are my furfamily..Mum is very careful when booking Cats in for grooming...Makes sure No dogs are in. Most of the cats mum see,s are very matted and need clipping.
My sisfur Norman loves being groomed so much that she wont stay still..Mum has to clip her every so often to keep her coat in order. In UK , cat groomers are hard to find. Purrs Alfie

Grooming? I'm a cat and I do a superb job of grooming myself, thank you very much. I allow the Mama to comb my back cuz I can't reach it and cuz it feels soooo good. I also allow her to trim my claws and look in my ears.

This cat is self cleaning!

I trim claws while the cat protests,an one cat with extra thick short gets a daily brushing to prevent furballs and projectile shedding, but other than that, my cats groom them selves

on the other paw, my alpha cat has been known to groom me with a daily micridermabrasion facial if her food dish is not exactly full.

I am a long haired cat, and needs loads of grooming. It has took Mummy a bit of time to learn, how to brush me as her other cats had been short haired. She does require help on time to time, as I do seem to become knotty overnight.

I do like being brushed but i am also very tempamental and when I raise my paw, the brush time is over or I will swat.

Well, we have been grooming each other for a long time, but we won the Furminator contest, and now even our long-haired tortie sister Goldie, is beggin' for more "Furminating". Up till now we've just mostly helped each other our, especially our sisters Kelli & Grace, who are obsessive neat-freak sisters...they groom each other to the last stray hair, so they LOVE the Furminator...my brother Nin has a lot more fur than me, and he's about a pound lighter tonight; and Goldie woke Meowmy and Purr Daddy up last night to get more groomin'...it's really made a difference in the amount of fur on the couch, the bed, the ceiling fan...well, clothes, everything. Thanks Catster!!! Love, Cupcake

I'm lucky to have kitties that are all fastidious self groomers. I'd once worked as a groomer & was horrified at how many folks would bring their cats in to be washed in the same manner as dogs, i.e.: full immersion in a tub full of water with soap, scrubbing with shampoo, & rinsing, along with some insisting on another torture round with conditioner! This torture session was made worse as I was often forced to do this next to someone working on a dog who'd bark & growl the whole time. Most breeds of kitties are born with a sincere aversion to, if not full blown fear of, water & while already terrified, as they are away from home & their owners, throw into this equation barking dogs, water, & loud sounds & you have a very horrible situation the cats have to endure. I've seen an older kitty have a heart attack brought on by this stress. As I was the most gentle & slow going with kitties, I took to just using wet, soapy cloths instead of the immersion to bathe them, & even then it was heart wrenching to hear them howl & see how they'd shake, sometimes for hours after we'd finished. I was all too happy to have left that job, because it was nothing short of torture to most of the cats brought in. With this in mind I leave this bit of advice to you: unless you have a breed of cat, such as Sphynx or Rex, (or a kitty that enjoys bathing, I've had 2 so far in my lifetime) or must have your cat groomed due to allergies & medical reasons, please stop stressing out your cat! While we enjoy the wonderful scents of the soaps & colognes used, they are horrific smelling to the kitty & they have a most powerful sense of smell making that wonderful "baby powder" scent that we find so pleasant quite overpowering & offensive. Cats are also the most clean of all the animal kingdom. They clean themselves at least once a day from top to bottom, rarely missing a spot. Some of my "senior citizens" need a helping hand once in a while & I do so with slightly wet cloths if needed. All of them get a hearty brushing or combing at least once a week, some love it done every day, & I "groom" them with cotton balls or Q-tips for their ears, & will pick off any "eye boogers" (sometimes I'll need to moisten them to help remove it, which I do with a warm water moistened cloth) & sometimes have to help clean their fannies (wet wipes/ baby wipes, or toilet paper). After what I'd seen & was forced to do while working in the groomers, along with that handsome Himalayan named Dijon meeting his untimely end due to all the stress he endured while being groomed, I'd promised myself that I would NEVER make my kitties go through the torture all in the name of being clean. I'd learned over the 18 years since that job that cats are already the cleanest creatures, can have their skin & oil glands (this oil helps to keep their fur water resistant which is why outdoor cats have rain water roll off their fur & only the top layer gets wet, leaving the undercoat dry) corrupted by bathing/grooming them. Seeing how they would react with trembling & hearing those howls of sheer terror was truly heartwrenching. I would ask myself over & over if having kitty look clean & fluffy (or fuzzy if they were shaven) & smelling of "baby powder" or some other pleasant "human" scent (which cats find terribly offensive as their sense of smell is awesome) was worth the trauma they endured. We had some customers that would bring their cats in every 2 weeks & I would see how they would be shaking in their carriers even before they were inside the shop. Learning more about cats & how their bodies worked, including their fur & skin, & thier psychology, led me to believe that it is so terribly wrong to "groom" kitties in the same manner as dogs. I mean no offense to professional groomers, but I do hope that you take to heart the things I brought up & have experienced. If the owner insists on "bathing" the cat, try to avoid immersion & use wet cloths to do so. Also have at least a "dog free zone" for them to recuperate, if you can't schedule to have a "no dogs" day. I'm blessed with my kitties all trying to out-clean each other & only have to do some occasional puffing, picking, sticking, wiping & preening. My "grooming" sessions are done on their time for the most part & they are always left purring & rolling over to show their bellies, a sure sign that they trust me & didn't mind when I used the wet cloth to get at those "eye boogers." I always laugh when I hear ignorant people proclaim cats to be "filthy" or "dirty" as I'd found out that even those flea bitten alley cats are often cleaner than the finely coifed human that question cats' cleanliness. I hope those who read this aren't offended or feel that I am judging them, I just wanted to point out some things that they may not understand or realize & simply want what is best for all kitties. I love these critters more & more every day & was able to learn from experience as well as "book knowledge" about the subject of cat grooming & wanted to pass it on. I am hoping that there is not another kitty like Dijon who died from fear while being groomed & he was a "regular" that came at least once a month, so it wasn't a first time fluke. While most cats are well adept at keeping clean, there are a few that can use some help & these things can be done right in their own homes by even the most clueless cat owner. Unscented baby wipes, rinsed with warm water, are a great tool, as is a soft bristled tooth brush, cotton balls & Q-tips, & soft cloths used wet or dry, is basically all that is needed to keep kitty looking their best. Love to all kitties! >^._.^

Hi, I'm a sphynx and don't have any fur to groom. Because of that, I need regular baths by my meowmy to keep clean. I've been gettng baths since I was a kitten, so i don't mind them so much. In between baths, I still lick myself to stay clean. I also need my meowmy to help me clean my ears, eye boogers, and nail beds, too. It's so nice being pampered!

My brother Nin is lookin' good! He likes the Furminator. His fur's a lot thicker than mine. Our older sister, Goldie, is looking so much better, too, and asks for her daily combing. Which is amazing because she never would let Meowmy comb or brush her long tortie coat before! (I heard Meowmy tellin' someone that when Goldie was little, she was so hyper and she had di-reah or something like that a lot, and then wanted to sleep on their pillows at night, so she had to have a warm bath every night before bed. Meowmy said maybe that's why she grew up liking baths; now she likes Meowmy to towel her off after Meowmy takes a shower!) - I, Cupcake, prefer to keep grooming myself. I'm already doing a great job on my purrfectly shiny black coat (and two white spots on my tummy). Purrs, Cupcake

I'm Sasha and I pretty much groom myself. My human brushes me with a soft toothed plastic brush, though, and I really like that. In fact, as soon as I see her pick up that brush, I run over and lay down with my rear in the air for some good brushing. She started brushing me because even though I have short hair, I was getting hairballs, and she didn't want me to eat so much hair when I groom myself. Other than that, she doesn't need to groom me. Except, she wishes I would let her clip my nails, but I refuse. I can use my scratching post, and I bite them sometimes to get the 'shells' off. Other than that, I look good all the time. Meow.
