How to Handle a Cat

When meeting an unfamiliar cat for the first time, don't immediately walk up to her and pick her up. First, get to know her and let her check you out. Let kitty smell your hand, then pet her lightly on the back, running your hand from shoulder to tail. Don't let yourself get upset or excited if it's not going well; cats can sense your alarm and will resist you.
