Learn to Speak Cat with Cartoonist Anthony Smith

The British artist's series of cartoons helps decipher your kitty's demanding meowing.

Does this scene sound familiar? It's 5 a.m. and your cat friend meows incessantly, perhaps taking a couple of swipes at your nose as you toss and turn and try to go back to sleep. You finally climb out of bed to see what the cat wants. You feed the cat; the cat does not stop meowing. You scoop the litter box; the cat does not stop meowing. What could the cat  want? (Besides global domination, that is.)

How many of you go through this ritual daily?

Thanks to British cartoonist Anthony Smith, who contributes daily to the Metro newspaper, we can Learn to Speak Cat. Personally, I get a little self conscious when I try to practice my cat -- I'm not very good at rolling my purrs.

Accompanied by purring and drooling -- natch!

Exactly!

Updating his Facebook page regularly with colorful illustrations, Smith offers quick bursts of joy as he attempts to decipher the world of cats.

Who doesn't love a little pun? Especially when the pun involves cats?

Also known to cats as, "The good old days."

Stealing hearts.

But of course.

If you want to keep up with Smith's Learn to Speak Cat, because your kitty's meowing is a mystery or you just dig a good laugh, check it out. We are not responsible, however, for the strange looks you might get on the street when you meet a cat and get down on your knees to address her.
