You and your pooch can enjoy an elegant horse drawn carriage ride in downtown Austin. This carriage services offers one hour Historic Day Tours on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 4pm. You will view downtown Austin's Congress Avenue, the State Capitol and Grounds, the Bremond Area and much more. They also offer Downtown Evening Rides from 7pm to 11pm. There are two ways to take this carriage ride. You can either flag down one of the carriages located in downtown or call the dispatcher about 2 hours ahead of time and they will have a carriage pick you up from a downtown location like a hotel or restaurant (like the dog-friendly Carmelos at 504 E 5th). Rates are $45 for a half hour tour and $85 for one hour. There is a $5 discount if paying by cash.

From March through November, there are three guided walking tours which you and your pooch can choose from. They are all outdoor tours and your well-behaved leashed dog is welcome. The first tour is the Capitol Grounds. The tour highlights the lawns and gardens, and some interesting facts about the statehouse. This one hour tour is offered on Saturdays at 2pm and Sundays at 9am. The second tour is the Bremond Block. Walk through one of Austin's Victorian neighborhoods and view homes of the John Bremond Sr. family. These one and a half hour tours are on Saturdays and Sundays at 2pm. The third tour is Congress Avenue and Sixth Street. This tour focuses on the history and architecture of downtown Austin. These one and a half hour tours are Thursdays through Saturdays at 9am and Sundays at 2pm. All tours start promptly at their designated times. They are all FREE and they all start at the south steps on the Capitol, near Congress Avenue and 11th Street. Be sure to meet at the Capitol's south steps and not on the street corner. Reservations are not required, but please call ahead to verify times and days.

Congress Avenue Bridge is the home to one of the most unusual tourist attractions, the largest urban bat colony in North America. Around sunset, from March to early November, you can watch 1.5 million Mexican free-tail bats fly out from under the bridge. They go out at around sunset in search of their food which are mosquitos and other small bugs. The best time for this bat viewing is late July through mid-August. If your pooch is a bird-watcher, he or she might just notice all the bats in the sky. To view the bats, some people stand on the bridge, some go to the shoreline of the Town Lake, while others watch from the Bat Observation area. There are even Bat Interpreters at the observation area Thursday through Sunday, from June through August. The observation site is located at the Austin American-Statesman (local newspaper) at 305 South Congress Avenue. Free but limited parking is available after 6pm. If this lot is full, extra parking is available at the Texas Department of Transportation office parking lot, off nearby Riverside Drive.

Dogs on leash are allowed at this botanical garden. The 31 acre garden is on the south bank of the Colorado River, close to downtown Austin. Enjoy garden themes like the Fragrance Garden, Prehistoric Garden, Rose Garden, Oriental Garden and more. The grounds are usually open daily from 7am until dark. Food is not allowed in the gardens, except for certain special events. However, you can have a picnic in the adjacent dog-friendly Zilker Metropolitan Park. Admission to the garden is free. The garden is located in Zilker Park, south of Town Lake and east of MoPac (Loop 1). From MoPac (Loop 1), take the FM 2244/Rollingwood exit and follow the signs for Zilker Park. Watch for the Zilker Botanical Garden's dark green signs. The garden is located on the left at 2220 Barton Springs.

Dogs are allowed at this day park. Dogs must be leashed and cleaned up after, and they are not allowed at the pool.
