Millie Bush is the best dog park I've ever visited. It has all the necessary "stuff;" that is, it's securely double-gated, has a separate area for dogs who weigh <20 lbs., plentiful garbage cans and waste-disposal bags, &c.
Millie Bush also has three ponds (two in the big-dog area and one for the little guys), "fire hydrants" a-plenty, and really nice washing stations if you want to give your pup a bath before heading home. It's wonderful to see water-oriented dogs splashing in the pools after their toys (or just because.) Since even the small dogs get a pond I've even seen tiny toy poodles getting in on the action, which is just delightful.
There are also benches for the humans and a nice covered area for those hot, bright Houston days.
It can get pretty muddy at Millie when it's been raining hard but that's never been a deterrant for us. (The website says: "Millie Bush Bark Park is on Federal land used as a reservoir which is intended to hold large amounts of flood water when needed. Lucky for us, it doesn't flood often to this extent, however, when it does the park may be flooded for 2 to 3 weeks.")
What I love best about Millie is the size (there's enough room to run) and the variety of dogs and people who are always there. I've had some great conversations and seen examples of breeds I'd only read about before. (I've also met some charming mutts. Like I said, great variety.)
The location is beautiful and I wouldn't want it anywhere else but it is pretty far away from everything. Totally worth it, though.

Everyone there is awesome and it's one of two parks in San Antonio as of right now, so it's a great chance for the dogs and owners to get together and play, run, and socialize.

Dogs on leash are allowed at this botanical garden. The 31 acre garden is on the south bank of the Colorado River, close to downtown Austin. Enjoy garden themes like the Fragrance Garden, Prehistoric Garden, Rose Garden, Oriental Garden and more. The grounds are usually open daily from 7am until dark. Food is not allowed in the gardens, except for certain special events. However, you can have a picnic in the adjacent dog-friendly Zilker Metropolitan Park. Admission to the garden is free. The garden is located in Zilker Park, south of Town Lake and east of MoPac (Loop 1). From MoPac (Loop 1), take the FM 2244/Rollingwood exit and follow the signs for Zilker Park. Watch for the Zilker Botanical Garden's dark green signs. The garden is located on the left at 2220 Barton Springs.
