Dr. Kurt Lutgens and his wife, Dr. Gretchen Allen,came to the Greenwich, NewYork area in 1981 to join Dr.Joe Cali in building a dream. All three were classmates and graduated from Cornell Veterinary School in 1978.They started in a small trailer on the corner of route 29 and 40 in Middle Falls. The practice grew rapidly in all directions, Small animal, Bovine, and Equine. In 1984 the first building was built. Since that time, the practice has evolved into three separate corporations , each housed in their own facility. The three Battenkill corporations have employed as many as 21 doctors at one time. Growth in the Equine part of the practice necessitated the Equine Medicine and Surgery building which opened it's doors in 1995, our founder being Dr. Kurt Lutgens, who has dedicated his life to Equine Veterinary medicine.
