I love KAMC

I'm very surprised that the below two posters had bad experiences at KAMC. I have an English Bulldog so I unfortunately spend a lot of my time at the vet's office. The staff has always been very friendly and knowledgable since day one. My dog loves it there so much I literally have to drag him out of the office when it's time to leave. The doggie daycare is great and leaves him worn out and ready for a nap. I did have the same experience as the below poster with vaccines, I was not planning on giving my dog the lepto vaccine but one Dr in particular did not bother to ask me first(she was not my regular dr). Dr Livadeaus is very knowledgable and always takes the time to explain Jody's conditions and medications, I've never had any products forced upon me like the other poster metioned. Dr Strausser is also very knowledgable and has performed Cherry eye surgery on my puppy with positive results. The vet techs are friendly and very knowledgable as well. To my knowledge you don't need a perscription for heartworm and flea meds and they've never berated me for any choices I've made with dog food etc.

grooming

I brought my dog to the Kildaire Center for grooming. This experience left me highly unsatisfied. I dropped my dog off for grooming at 8:00 am and agreed he would have a wash/dry, ears cleaned, nails cut, and anal glands drained all for $34.00 and I would be back to pick him up at 1:00 pm. I warned the tech that he hated his nails trimmed and would probably need to be muzzled. She thanked me for the warning. I returned at 1:00 pm and was told they were not able to trim his nail or work on the anal glands. I said “ok” and then was told my bill was $34.00 even though only half the job had been done. The reason I choose this facility is because its part of a veterinarian facility and thought they would be able to help me with this problem. Not only did the Kildaire facility insist I pay the fool amount for half the job, but then returned my dog half dried! I don’t do business this way.

They're Good for Some, but Not the Vet for Us

We've only been here for Rondo's yearly exam, and to be honest, I'm not entirely sure we're going to be headed back when Gretta's turn comes around. They didn't do anything wrong--I have no shocking horror story or tale of woe to share about them. Maybe we just caught them on a bad day (they were recently chosen as the top vet hospital in Cary), but I was not impressed with the way Rondo was handled. It felt like he was "just another patient" and they seemed fairly indifferent to what I was telling them. Rondo has some horrible food allergies and extreme vaccine sensitivities, and they did not even give me a chance to discuss what innoculations I wanted and did not want, nicely berated me for using Advantix instead of Frontline Plus, and wouldn't write a prescription for the heartworm preventative we had been using. They even had qualms about the type of food I was feeding and recommended a different food that contained...corn. Rondo's major allergen. It just seemed that they weren't really tuned in to what I knew from three years of struggle (and working very closely with our former vet, who unfortunately for us moved to PA)with Rondo's medical issues, and basically told me I was doing almost everything wrong, from flea and heartworm prevention (the two I used are, coincidentally, not sold at this clinic--they would only recommend things that were sold there) to diet and nutrition. Other than that, the clinic is very clean, with separate areas for dogs and cats. They have a doggie daycare, boarding, and grooming, and I've seen terrific trims come from the salon. Pricewise, they were definitely affordable, even more so if you check their website where they have coupons. A few positives are the ability to schedule everything, from boarding to physicals, via internet and their prescription mailing program. Plus the ladies at my office adore this clinic, as does the greater Cary area. I may give them one more try with Gretta (and the lead vet) because everyone else has had such wonderful experiences, but I haven't decided yet.
