“Who We Are Hello and Welcome to Kelly's Kitten Rescue! We are happy that you stopped by to check us out. To tell you a little bit about who we are. I am a 27 year old that works during the day at a local Engineering company in Kansas City, MO. I love animals of any size shape or color. I am a bigger cat lover though! I grew up with a menagerie of pets from pet rabbits that we would breed and sell to people for pets, mice, hamsters, girbles, fish, one wild robin that we raised from a hatchling that fell out of our tree in our front yard from a wind storm that went threw, dogs, one bearded dragon (lizard), 3 leopard spotted gecko’s, numerous turtles that we would find on the streets we would bring them home and let them go in the back yard or out in a field that was close to our house, frogs that would show up in our garden pond, (I guess you could call them a pet, but they would leave when it was time for them to hibernate.). I also did alot of volunteer work with a few of the local shelters for quite a while from walking the dogs, cleaning cages, and playing with the animals that had no homes. I also volunteered at the local Nature Center helping with the animals and breeding rats for the wild animals that could no longer live in the wild for one reason or another so they would have food. That is why the rescue was started out of my love for animals and thoughts that all animals no matter what they deserved better than being behind bars just waiting to see if they are going to live and find a home or waiting to meet their doom and going to the Rainbow Bridge to wait for someone to come and collect them after they are gone from our world. My mom is the other person that runs the rescue. She is a retired registered nurse that worked at a local hospital for quite a while. She also shares the love of animals and we would not be doing rescues if I did not have a mother like the one that I have that loves animals and wants to share our home with some of the ones that have no home and to have a place to stay untill they do find homes of their own. She also grew up with animals mainly rabbits, hamsters, & dogs but she has always liked all animals except snakes! I don't know of any other mother that would be so understanding when her child would bring home all sorts of wild animals as well as non-wild animals and ask if we could keep them for a while and then either release them back in the wild or find another suitable home for them. We have rescued several cats and a few dogs from the pound who have gone over the Rainbow Bridge and are waiting till their humans come and find them. That is another reason we started the rescue we figured we could help out by getting them off of the streets and in a healthy environment to find homes when they are ready. Since most of them get overlooked when they are behind bars scared out of their minds and don't act like they would be a loving fun animal we get them into our home to show people that they do have a personality all of their own! We are a home based operation, non-profit, no-kill foster home, and all costs for the animals that we take care of come out of our pockets or from donations. We raise the kittens in a family/home environment; this means we do not use cages for any of the kittens. We started the rescue to help all the kittens that their mother has either ran away or has been killed and they don't have a clean warm forever home to call their own! We have taken in litters of kittens and mother cats in the past. We have worked with other rescue groups to find kittens homes. We have also done volunteer work in local animal shelters. We take abandoned mother cats that are expecting and find forever homes for them and their babies when they are ready at about 8 week of age and the mother gets a home as soon as she is healed up from being spayed after the kittens are weaned from her. We also take in bottle babies (under 3 weeks of age). We have only had a few of the bottle babies to take care of and have had a 100% success rate with them. We teach the babies good socialization skills and house manners along with the mother cat if she is not used to being a house cat. The kittens are raised with other cat friends and a standard daschound who weighs 35 lbs that thinks he is a cat so they will be well socialized with different animals. Please keep in mind when you adopt ONE kitten/cat you are actually saving the lives of TWO animals. The ONE you are adopting and the ONE that will be allowed to come into the rescue when that space is opened up from the one being adopted. PLACING UNWANTED, ABANDONED KITTENS IN LOVING HOMES WITH RESPOSIBLE, LOVING, & CARING PEOPLE IS OUR MISSION! Adopting a kitten/cat Potential owners are screened very thoroughly by Kelly’s Kitten Rescue Adoption Committee. Adopters are required to fill out an application, provide Vet references and information on current animals living in the home and the conditions they live in. A volunteer will call the Vet to be sure that potential owners have properly cared of their pets in the past and that all current pets have been spayed or neutered and are up-to-date on vaccinations. We can send you the application needed to start the adoption process if you email us at email@example.com We do not like to open E-mails that don't have a Subject so please put one . Also it helps from being sent directly to the SPAM folder to never be seen again. All Applications must be approved by the Adoption Committee prior to meeting any of the kittens. The Application, Agreement, and if adopting a unaltered kitten the Spay/neuter Agreement must be signed at the time of the adoption. We will email you the agreement and the spay/neuter agreement after you are approved for adoption so you can fill it out prior to meeting the kittens. The adoption donation for one of the kittens 8 weeks - 6 months is $100. Some of the kittens have been spayed/neutered and some have not. If the kitten you are interested in has not already been spayed/neutered you will have 30days after the adoption to get the kitten spayed/neutered and you will be required to fill out the spay/neuter agreement. All cats or kittens 6 months and older will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. If the kittens adopted out prior to being spayed/neutered are not spayed/neutered within the 30days or have a appointment to get spayed/neutered will be relinquished back to Kelly's Kitten Rescue. You will be required to show proof of spay/neuter from your vet when it is done. What you actually get for your money: Current shots appropriate for the age of the kitten or cat, wormer, several vet. checks, fecal testing, spay or neuter, flea preventative, tested for felv/fiv, a kitten starter gift bag and a loving kitten/cat that will show unconditional love for the rest of their life with you! To insure that our kittens are healthy some of the health issues we test for are Felv/FIV a kitten with either of these deadly diseases will not be adopted out by us. They are also checked for and if needed treated for all types of worms & other parasite. They receive their kitten vaccinations, flea preventive, and regular vet checks while they are in our care. All these services are done and paid for by Kelly’s Kitten Rescue out of our pocket and any donations we may receive. Some of the kittens may be spayed or neutered before they go to their new homes also. We think the price of adoption is reasonable when you consider the actual cost of a free to good home kitten or cat. None of the kittens will be adopted out until they are 8 weeks of age and 2 lbs in weight. Adopting a kitten too young can lead to socialization and behavioral problems. This is also to help protect the kitten's health and well being. We do require that all kittens/cats be INDOORS ONLY! Cats & kittens can get into too much trouble being outside (hit by car, diseases, animal attack, etc). If needed Kelly’s Kitten Rescue will take back any animal adopted from us no matter how long it has been and we will find it another suitable home. Please look and see the kittens that we have available for adoption. If you have any questions please e-mail us and we will respond to your e-mails in a timely fashion. We do NOT allow any pet that is adopted from us to be transported through the airlines. If you are interested enough in one of the kittens you will be willing to make the drive to pick up your new kitty. We do not fly kittens or cats because it is just too stressful on the cat/kitten!!! ONLY people willing to drive and pick up. Thank you for wanting to give a home to a rescue kitten. The following people will NOT be approved to adopt: People that do not reside legally within the USA. People that have a history of animal neglect or abuse. People with pets that are not presently current on vaccinations. People with current pets that are not Spayed or Neutered. People that are not legal adults (21 & over). People that rent and have leases that do not allow pets. People that are still in college. People willing to let the pet roam outside. People not willing to spay or neuter. Before beginning the adoption process please, ask yourself this important question: Will my cat be left alone at home for 8 to 10 hours per day? Cats enjoy the company of others and often form intense pair bonds either with their human companions or other animals. Leaving a cat or kitten alone for long periods of time, without human or feline companionship, can lead to problems such as scratching, aggressive play, dietary and/or litter box issues. If you work long hours (don’t forget to count commute time, children’s after school activities, etc.) and don’t have someone else to provide care and companionship for your cat while you are away, CONSIDER ADOPTING TWO KITTENS OR A OLDER CAT THAT IS USE TO BEING THE ONLY CAT. Two cats adopted together are easier and happier and have fewer problems than one lonely bored animal. This is especially true for kittens that require a great deal of socialization in order to develop appropriate and acceptable household behavior. We do offer a discounted adoption donation for adopting two kittens at the same time. ”
