“picture perfect park in the heart of Boston”
oldest public park in the countryThe starting point of the Freedom Trail. The Boston Common is known to be one of the oldest public parks in the country. The park is almost 50 acres in size. The "Common" has been used for many different purposes throughout its long history. Until 1830, cattle grazed the Common, and until 1817, public hangings took place here. British troops camped on Boston Common prior to the Revolution and left from here to face colonial resistance at Lexington and Concord in April, 1775. This is such a beautiful place to take your dog. There are people enjoying the park reading, walking, playing frisbee, picnicing...you name it. Please keep you dog on a leash or long line, so many people love dogs but not everyone does. There is a leash law and in this family park please respect it and clean up after your pooch at all times. You will want to make this a regular stop and part of your routine. However, like any large park, I would NOT reccomend going in at night. And as always carry a cell phone, you never know when you'll need it. |
