| Top-Rated Rescue Organizations Rescue Organizations 1832 18th Street NW Washington, DC 20009 City Dogs Rescue was formed for one reason: to rescue adoptable dogs in high-kill shelters where resources are severely limited. We want to offer a lifeline to as many of these wonderful pups as possible. Sadly, nearly all of the dogs that City Dogs Rescue takes in are just days and sometimes hours away from being euthanized, for no reason other than lack of space. By finding these dogs permanent and loving homes in the DC metropolitan area, we can enrich lives - both human and canine. We are excited to embark on this journey, and we welcome your help in any capacity – through volunteering, fostering, adopting, and/or donating.
Rescue Organizations 3636 Winfield Lane Washington, DC 2007 Lucky Dog Animal Rescue is an all-volunteer, non-profit animal rescue organization dedicated to saving the lives of homeless animals and educating the community on responsible pet ownership. Lucky Dog does not have its own facility. Instead, our dogs stay with temporary fosters (and occasionally boarding partners) while they wait to find their forever home. We hold adoption events each week where you can see the Lucky Dogs strut their stuff, and we also arrange private meetings for adopters who fall in love with a pup’s internet photo.
Most Lucky Dogs come from high-kill shelters in Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. We work with shelter partners in low-income and rural areas where hundreds of highly-adoptable dogs are euthanized each month due to overpopulation problems, lack of spay/neuter education and inadequate funding. With the help of our dedicated volunteers and supporters, Lucky Dog rescues as many of these pups as possible.

To prevent additional unwanted litters of dogs and cats, which only exacerbate this crisis, we operate the only free Spay/Neuter clinic open to all residents in the Washington area regardless of income.
