As Thanksgiving looms, thoughts turn to Christmas and Holiday cards, and for many of us that means taking the annual holiday photo of the cats and creating a card. Every year I send out a few hundred cards, and I usually have them printed through online vendors. I’m frequently asked where I get my cards printed, so this week I’m discussing several online resources you can use to create Hallmark-quality cards at reasonable prices.

Yesterday we looked at Shutterfly, the behemoth in the print-on-demand greeting cards business. Today, we take a peek at the other end of the spectrum, a company called TinyPrints, which fills the specialty card niche.

TinyPrints.com

TinyPrints plays David to Shutterfly’s Goliath, but don’t underestimate them: their offerings are exquisite. If you’re looking for something that will grab the card recipient’s attention, take a look at TinyPrint’s tri-fold, flip, circle and raised ink cards:

Flip cards are attention grabbers that feature a photo window that flips from front to back:

Their tri-fold cards provide extra space for photos if you have a multi-cat household:

Circle cards are memorable and double as ornaments:

They even offer pop-up cards that surprise and delight the recipients:

In addition, their William Arthur embellished cards offer thermograpic (raised ink) printing, some with ribbon embellishments.

Quality
The cards are gorgeous and the design templates are classy. Output is first rate.

Depending on the design, the cards are printed on either 100-lb or 110-lb card stock. 100% of TinyPrints’ products and packaging feature eco-friendly recycled paper.

Auto-Mailing
Like Shutterfly, TinyPrint has a custom mailing feature, so that with a couple of clicks your cards are addressed and mailed for you. You’ll pay 44 for the stamp, 35 to print the recipient’s address, and an additional 35 to print your return address: that’s $1.14 above the cost of the card to have TinyPrints mail each card for you, a considerable premium.

Envelope Selection
Depending on the card you choose, you may have several envelopes from which to choose. You’re also given the option, if you select a square-format card, to mail in a standard rectangular envelope, saving you the additional postage.

And you can order additional envelopes so that if you mess up while addressing any of them, you’ll have an extra envelope to fall back on. That’s a feature I haven’t seen offered with other vendors.

Pro Designers Ensure Your Card is Purrfect
Professional designers will review your photo card orders for layout, spelling and etiquette to ensure that all of your photo cards are gorgeous. Proofs are available.

Pricing
Prices on standard folded 5X7″ cards are competitive. TinyPrints’ specialty cards are not cheap, but they do offer a good value for the money, especially when you buy in quantity.

There are three quality/pricing tiers. Studio Basics offers low-cost 3.90 x 8.85 photo cards for less than a buck each. The signature collection offers photo cards, story cards and flat cards on heavyweight card stock. The premium collection offers the unique card formats described above as well as raised ink and embellished cards.

The table below displays examples of the average pricing for various card formats. TinyPrint’s pricing is complicated — within each card format category there can be several price structures depending on the paper and embellishments (like raised ink or ribbons). So, the price of the specific card you select may be different than the prices listed below.
