Sparky the Cat was a mere 7 months old when he went missing in Boston. His owner, 19-year-old Addie Mathews of Lexington, was devastated and feared the worse.

Until this week when she got a call from the MSPCA informing her that Sparky had been found — identified via an implanted microchip.

I was shocked. Speechless, she said yesterday of Sparkys return. Im so happy. Hes an adult cat now, hes filled out a lot, she said. Hes still cute though.

Mathews said last year she was visiting a friend in Boston when Sparky took off through an open door in the building.

Her family posted fliers and unsuccessfully combed the neighborhood for the cat.

Mathews said Sparky was found in a foreclosed home in the neighborhood, the lone inhabitant of the abandoned property.

He was found to be healthy, generally, except for missing the tip of his tail. (If he knows where that tip is, he’s not talking.) Given the brutal winter, Sparky is lucky to have survived.

In fact, Mathews says he is normal and back to his cuddly self.
