The year is coming to a close, so what better time to take a minute to look back on the most adorable, heartwarming and sometimes heartbreaking cats of the year? That’s exactly what we’ll be doing with the 12 Cats of Christmas. First up is an impossibly cute lil’ kitten …

12. Bug-a-Boo

Back in the balmy midst of summer we profiled Bug-a-Boo, a teensy kitten with alluring eyes we ornately described as looking “like warm and gooey anime cat peepers that draw you into the dinky kitty’s world and then hold your gaze as waves of overpowering cuteness wash over you.” Ms. Boo also happens to have water on the brain, but despite her medical ailment this domestic longhair cutie is on a mission to bring awareness to other special-needs kitties.

Due to her delicate condition and diminutive frame, it turns out that six months after we introduced her on Catster, Bug-a-Boo is still in a care situation at the Joan’s Arc adoption center in New Jersey. There she is undergoing constant monitoring and further tests to ascertain the exact parameters of her condition, although a Facebook update happily characterizes her general state as being “a happy, lively little girl.”

Since first peeping pictures of Bug-a-Boo in July, it also seems that she’s definitely packed on a few (healthy) pounds and is filling out into quite the cat.

Unfortunately, Bug-a-Boo is not quite ready for a full-scale adoption mission yet — although her doctors say that day-by-day she is getting “much closer to being ready to find an appropriate adopter and a forever home.” While Bug-a-Boo waits on her permanent abode, we can rest content knowing that she’ll be in safe and loving hands throughout this holiday season.
