Cat Owner's Manual › Chapter 1: Choosing a Cat › Selecting the Right Cat Breed ›Cat Temperament
Common wisdom asserts that cats are aloof and distant. This could not be farther from the truth. While some feline models are not very demonstrative toward their owners (the Persian, for example), others, such as Abyssinians, can be loyal to the point of mania. If you want a purebred, take its personality (not just its appearance) into account before making a selection. As for mixed breeds, be sure to spend plenty of pre-acquisition time familiarizing yourself with the animal. Chapter 1: Choosing a Cat

I read that Tonkinese and Siamese are more affectionate than Persians. This has actually proved to be true! So its worth reading about the breed and decide whether you want a Velcro Kitty or an Ornamental Beauty!
