Cat Owner's Manual › Chapter 2: Bringing Your Cat Home › Initial Introduction to Cats or Kittens ›Initial Introduction for Kittens
Select a room in your home to serve as a "nursery." Equip it with food and water bowls, a bed, a litter box (make sure the food and litter box are well separated), toys, and a scratching post. Confine the kitten to this area until it consistently uses its litter box. Establish a regular schedule of feeding, handling, and playtimes. Children should handle the kitten during supervised play sessions. After making sure that all potential danger areas are secured (see Preparing the Home), allow the kitten to explore other parts of the house under your supervision. After its house-training is complete and it knows the lay of the land, the kitten can roam freely—though a heightened level of supervision is advisable during its first three months of life. Encounters with children should also be monitored. « Intro: Initial Introduction to Cats or Kittens | Table of Contents | Initial Introduction for Adult Cats » Chapter 2: Bringing Your Cat Home
