Cats and Communication

Because they lead solitary lives, the means of expression at a feline's disposal are not as versatile or extensive as those available to canines, whose survival depends on communicating in a group setting. For instance, while a dog can employ a nearly endless array of facial expressions, rigid feline faces are more restricted in their ability to transmit data. Body postures and audio cues may be called upon to reinforce important messages.

I do not believe this(that feline facial expressions are rigid).....I have known my oldest male cat for 16 years and when he looks at me I know (by the positioning of his facial muscles and his whiskers) whether he is cross, happy, loving etc........He often looks at me with such love that it almost breaks my heart......how can anyone say that cats do not have expressive faces.......?

Quirk BooksThe Cat Owner's Manual is a basic guide to cat care.
The book was written by a celebrated veterinarian and an acclaimed author. It provides cat owners with well-researched and helpful information presented in a lighthearted manner. The creators chose to write the book in a style similar to what you'd find in "operating instructions" for a car or computer. Of course they--and we--respect the fact that our beloved pets are not products or machines!
