Actually you find a lot of recommended cat/rawfed books there for a lot cheaper if you aren't opposed to buying "used" as opposed to new. I have numerous used books are are very much new - they are just missing the original wrapping. And some of the new books are super cheap too. You are wonderful for doing it for all the cats. As for the thawing, if it takes overnight that is not a problem. And warm water is good. Just NEVER use a microwave. When I commented about leaving it out, some folks leave it out for days and that's where the trouble - grows. Some will make a batch and either just leave a month in the frig or a week on the counter. Ick. Don't stress it. AND if you want some serious non "official" feedback on rawfed, talk to a breeder! As for official research/white papers, it is still a relatively new accepted thing amongst vets. Bottom line, the depends on how you prepare it. I personally got my little library as suggested by Anne at catnutrition.org. Love the books and got them off Amazon as well. Cheap. And do I hear you about the cost of meats. Let me clarify my costs. Yes, it's about $28 a week. (I have a lot of cats). I get the chicken thigh-and-legs from a local processor. I get organ meats from an Hispanic market (pretty inexpensive too) and I have on hand the usual vitamins/supplements, etc. I find that white meat (chicken) is too dry and papers say that is has less Taurine.
