I'm not sure what the question is here, but a friend asking me "So, you want a cat?" is basically how I got my cat Sneakers.

I've used Cosequin and Adequan. I've also used Metacam in the past but only for short term use...

My last cat, Sylvia, had kidney disease also but it was caught really early on routine bloodwork and she never had to take any medication for it or anything, just sub-q fluids a few times a week, and she lived with it for 2 years until she developed cancer.

In case anyone didn't see my update in POTP, Sneakers passed away on Sunday night. cry
She was retaining fluid and not urinating and stayed at the vet on Friday and Saturday, she had fluid in her tissues and chest... They gave her Lasix which helped some but they did not think she would pull through. I took her home Sat since they close for the weekend and they said they couldn't do much more that we could not due at home and to keep her on the Lasix. She seemed to be doing better on Saturday but I knew she was not doing well because she didn't want to sit on my lap which usually she loved to be on anyone's lap... She went downhill Sat night and Sunday, and overnight on Sunday she became very weak and I knew she didn't have much longer. She really fought it though. It was hard because she's been in very bad shape several times before but pulled through so it was hard to know if it is really it this time. I am glad I brought her home and was able to spend some time with her although some of the time she just wanted to be left alone.

Thank you guys!
I talked to the vet this morning, Sneakers did use the litterbox overnight and ate some. They did x-rays this morning to see if she might have fluid in her chest and she had some but not a lot (not enough that they had to drain it out) but it might indicate she could be developing heart failure. Since they are closed on Sunday and close early today, I asked the vet about bringing her home and the vet said since there wouldn't be someone there all the time over the weekend, I could bring her home and just keep her on the Lasix. So she's home now. She seems to have perked up a little compared to how the vet described her while she was there, she is drinking and has eaten a little. I put her in the litterbox after she ate and she actually urinated right away so I guess the lasix is at least doing something... She does still have some retained fluid though and the problem is still that we can't support her kidneys with the sub-q or IV fluids if she's not absorbing them.

Sneakers is not doing well at all, she is retaining fluid and the vet said she's not absorbing the sub-q fluids, the vet said she thinks she might be in "oliguric renal failure". frown She is staying at the vet tonight most likely and they're giving her lasix to see if they can flush out some of the fluids. The problem is if she's not absorbing they can't give her more fluids and if they can't give fluids it's going to make her kidneys worse...

Ok I have some mixed news... The good news is that Sneakers' appetite has improved and I found some food she will eat! way to go Also the specialist did not find any other problems with any of her other organs on ultrasound. The bad news is the specialist said she probably has about 10% kidney function now, and she also has IBD. He thinks it is likely the IBD that is causing her to not want to eat more than the CRF. We've increased her pred and reglan and it seems to be helping her to have more of an appetite. The problem with that is pred can sometimes make the CRF issues worse... So it's a balancing act between those two and also with her high blood pressure as those meds can make the CRF worse and also may affect her appetite negatively but we can't lower those because her blood pressure is still too high...
But I am still very relieved that she is eating more!

Thank you. Unfortunately Sneakers is not doing any better. frown
I'm afraid the specialist might say there's nothing else we can do. frown
