| Purred: Tue Sep 4, '12 8:42am PST | | | | | Stella: Thanks for the post. Us New Orleans Kitties are fine, no water in the house, not even street flooding. We live in a suburb west of New Orleans. The area where meowmy used to live did not get flooed either, but since Issac hit exactly seven years to the day after Hurricane Katrina lots of humans were scared. We were out of power from Wednesday at 1:00 am to Sunday at 3:00 p.m. Meowmy was so sick from the heat (and her having high blood pressure), she had to call a neighbor on Friday. The lady came over (she is a retired nurse) and sat with meowmy, and helped her put cool towels on her head and around her neck.
As far as we know, no humans were lost in the storm, but some horses and cattle drowned in Plaquemines Parish (we have parishes rather than counties here in Louisiana). The photo on the front page of todays TIMES-PICAYUNE shows a man hugging his horse who survived.
But no damage to our house, just the food in the fridge and freezer meowmy had to throw out. And since the Winn-Dixie (our local grocery store) opened on Thursday, meowmy was able to get ice and CAT FOOD (MOST IMPORTANT). Sunday we all slept so soundly......that cool air felt GREAT!!..
We appreciated the phone calls from other CATSTER members, and it made us all feel very safe to know so many ktties were purring, and humans praying for us.

| Purred: Sun Aug 19, '12 9:36am PST | | | | | Oh, our meowmy cried when she read your post. But from your description of your health problems, it does not seem as if you had any choice. Thanks goodness you found a good friend to take her, so you can keep in contact. Would your health allow you to at least visit her in her new home??
We understand how you are hurting, but at least you did the best thing, found her a good home. So many, many animals are dropped at shelters or just put out if their owners cannot keep them. You ARE a good Kitty Parent!!!
Hugs, Purrs and Soft Paw Pats from

| Purred: Fri Aug 10, '12 1:30pm PST | | | | | It was a Royal typewriter. And does your mom remember "Dr Scat", it was a cleaning fluid used to get the "gunk" out of the typewriter keys. It had a black cat on the front of the bottle, and was applied with a wand that had a little "brush" on the end. Man, that stuff smelled STRONG!!!
And of course, the joys of carbon paper (NOT!).....trying to correct a typing error whe you had an original and 3 carbon copies.

| Purred: Fri Jul 6, '12 7:39pm PST | | | | | Sorry, did not realize your vet would charge extra to spay a kitten in heat. Certainly understand it being a financial burden. Here in the greater New Orleans area, June is "Fix a Feline Month"....vets who participate offer spay/neuter services for $10.00 for "owned" cats and free for Ferals. And there is a Foundation that offers spay/neuter services for cats and dogs for only $25.00. This was started after Hurricane Katrina, and they have taken care of about 55,000 THOUSAND cats and dogs. But glad her first heat cycle was so short, know how stressful it can be for cat and humans.
Keep us posted, she is a precious kitten.

| Purred: Sun Jul 1, '12 7:28am PST | | | | | A kitten in heat can be spayed, just call the vet and tell them, as they must know this before the surgery. They just need to know before what to expect. And don't worry, I won't fuss because you waited. Moving twice within six weeks is enought stress for you AND the cat, what is important is that she will be spayed.
Good luck, and keep us posted......

| Purred: Wed Feb 29, '12 7:03am PST | | | | | If I remember correctly - another CATSTER who posted about he "Velcro" harness, said they had gotten them in the Dog Department at Petsmart. Just look for one for a small dog. They may well be availalbe on the Internet as well, I am sure another CATSTER person may be able to post the link.
Can't wait to see photos of Toast in his harness.

| Purred: Wed Feb 15, '12 9:03am PST | | | | | We saw this posted on Facebook also, and signed the petition, but will be glad to sign again. And agree, it is NOT funny, for a commercial to show animal abuse in any way, shape or form. Someone in their Advertising/Marketing Department was sleeping when this commercial was made and shown on TV.
