I can't afford an electric grinder. Is a hand grinder suitable if I smash the bones to make them smaller?

I'm sorry if I sound rude, but not neutering your cat 'to save a couple of bucks' is not a valid reason. He will mate with unspayed queens, thus bringing up the already soaring population, and you put him at more risk of certain cancers, getting in fights, and wandering/getting lost. If you could find a low-cost clinic, that would be great. smile

Cats may or may not be eating grass for the nutrients, but they still are eating them, so I would include greens. But in the end it comes down to what works best for your cat.

I personally think 5-10 percent greens is ideal, but you aren't going to kill your cat if you feed no vegetables. I know prey model feeders object to veggies, but since cats can utilize lutein and cartenoids, and I believe fermentable fiber is important, if I made my own food I would personally feed a small bit of vegetables.

Everything here is correct, but I believe reading that whenever cats smell food, their urine becomes more alkaline, which may harm cats with cystitis. Cat nutrition is confusing at first-I once thought corn was a good grain for urinary problems! (NOT true)

I prefer bonemeal...there is more to bone than calcium, and gelatin to recreate cartilage. 4 tablespoons in bonemeal (half in gelatin) will do per 3 lbs of meat.

Raw Food Diet > How much bonemeal to add?

"Raising Cats Naturally" has 2 tbs bonemeal and to 2 1/4 pounds of meat, catnutrition.org has 4 tbs to 3 pounds, holisicat.com has slightly less than 1.5 tbs of it per pound. And what about gelatin? I'm confused!

I'm confused. Some sources say that meat should be at least 15 percent fat, but others say that only 95 percent lean beef is okay. Which is correct?

Sorry to bump this up, but how strong will the blender have to be (and what kind of bones?)
