Kitten Corner > Black poop, but from who??

| Purred: Wed May 22, '13 2:08pm PST | | | | | Normally the mother cat cleans unweaned babies rears and consumes their waste. Before and after you feed the kittens, take kleenex or soft paper towel, moisten it with warm water, and gently rub it around and over each kitten's anus and genitalia. The kitten should eliminate into the paper towel and you should be able to easily see which kitten is putting out what and who is having the black stools. | | | | |

Cat Health > Hind legs going numb

| Purred: Mon Apr 29, '13 1:18am PST | | | | | Another possible cause of your cat's symptoms could be due to a condition called feline hyperesthesia syndrome. The furious licking as well as the resultant temporary numbness in the rear legs are both symptoms of feline hyperesthesia syndrome.

Kitten Corner > Playmate for older cat

| Purred: Mon Apr 29, '13 12:34am PST | | | | | A social friendly cat usually will make friends with an outgoing social kitten or adult cat that likes other cats. Be aware though that it's likely to take some time for any newcomer to adjust and some fearful hissing on the part of the newcomer should be expected. Does your dog respond & play with your cat when your cat starts a game with the dog? Do the two ever sleep together? If so, your cat and dog may already be buddies and playmates. Dogs and cats often do become playmates and form strong friendships with each other. | | | | |

| Purred: Mon Apr 29, '13 12:26am PST | | | | | Dry food is best for most cats. Dry food helps keep a cat's teeth cleaner and in better condition whereas cats on wet foods tend to build up tartar and develop dental problems much more rapidly. Also wet food is mostly water, why pay for a food that's mostly water.
If you really want your cat to have moist food, you can soak dry food in hot water and serve the dry food soaked much more economically than buying canned food. Using hot water to soak dry food works best because dry food soaks up much faster and better when soaked in hot water than if its soaked in cold water.

Cats and a Clean Home > My Butt Stinks, and I Fling Litter Everywhere

| Purred: Mon Apr 29, '13 12:09am PST | | | | | Another thing I do with one long haired cat who tends to catch poop in his hair and gets a dirty butt is to trim the hair short around his anus, on the underside of his tail near his body, on the insides of his hind legs, and on the backs of his hind legs. I also trim the hair short on the bottoms of his paws so he can't get litter and poop caught in between his pads.
If you have a cat who cannot clean his butt because he's too fat to reach around to clean it, you may have to take him to a groomer, bathe him yourself, or gently wash his rear with warm water until you get it clean. While a cat who is too fat to clean his own butt needs to lose weight, cats must be made to lose weight gradually so if your cat needs to lose weight, have your vet check him to make sure he's otherwise healthy and then put him on a reducing diet under your vet's guidance.

Science has even proven that the purr of a cat is good for a human's circulatory system and people who own cats on the average live 7 years longer than people who do not own cats.
I personally hate commercials, cartoons, etc, that advocate or make a joke out of cruelty to a cat or any other animal.

Grooming > polydactyl cats and coloring

| Purred: Wed Apr 24, '13 5:34pm PST | | | | | Genetically, except for dominant white which masks all other colors, black and its tabby counterpart, the brown mackerel tabby, are dominant over all other cat colors & patterns. The white spotting gene is also dominant. Overall, brown mackerel tabby and black cats, with or without white markings, are the most commonly seen domestic cat colors and patterns. So the odds naturally favor a polydactyl being a brown mackerel tabby or a black with or without white markings. Color is unrelated to the polydactyl trait. | | | | |
