Perhaps you could go to a smaller amount of food? Maybe give a bit of dry and a bit of wet food (obviously not together wink ). Maybe try to get your kitty to exercise a bit more? Doesn't have to be a lot, just a bit. In any case, I wish you luck! smile

Food & Nutrition > Can't afford canned food anymore... $60/monthly budget to feed 3 cats, help?

I'd suggest Friskies or Fancy Feast. Fancy Feast has worked for Bastet and, I've noticed that if you get the 24 packs they sometimes have coupons in them (a dollar off), so it's slightly cheaper than getting the cans separately. May want to grab some dry too. Hope things get better for you! big hug

Aww hon, I'm sorry I didn't find this post earlier. *hugs* This is Bastet's mom speaking, I'm dealing with cancer myself at the moment (although it's Leukemia, not gum cancer). Cancer truly sucks. We're all purring for you, and if you need someone to talk to, feel free to message me! I truly hope things get better for you!

I also recommend CET toothpaste, and yep, February is dental month and the vet I use is giving a 15% discount on dentals. But yeah, definitely get some CET toothpaste and a tiny toothbrush. It'll definitely be worth it.

Hi Holly!

I feed Bastet both wet and dry (dry for when she's extra hungry), but only the dry food is grain free (Merrick's Before Grain). Alas, Bastet loves the gravy covered Fancy Feast and hates pate canned food. But I highly recommend the Merrick's if you need to feed Holly dry food occasionally.

I second what Alex said, take your kitty to the vet as soon as you can. Have them do a full check up on her with blood tests. Hope things get better.

Bastet seems to love her Heartgard. Osiris (who isn't with us anymore), only disliked them for a bit, and that's when he had a hairball right after eating it. Poor guy. He got used to Heartgard again.

But yeah, Heartgard should work fine. smile

Food & Nutrition > Do you or did you ever feed Purina products, and have an issue?
Bastet

Pet me! :)

Purred: Mon Jan 16, '12 2:04pm PST
Okay, let's see if this posts. Tried to earlier, but it didn't work.

As for any issues with Purina products, I haven't really had any. Bastet doesn't seem to like the beef canned food though, so I stay away from that. When I did feed her some Purina Naturals she didn't seem to like it much, but she didn't have any problems that I remember (it was a few years back). Bastet loves her gravy covered Fancy Feats canned food though.

Now, as for Purina going around poisoning people's pets? I can't see it. Yes they are a business, but I can't see a pet food company wanting to endanger their customer base (and get lots of people angry with them). Yes, there are issues with the quality control of pet food, but I don't think that the companies would do it on purpose. Lack of knowledge on what's good for our pets may be more of an issue - the companies need to work on that. Not only Purina but others as well I think. We'll get there I'm sure.
