It will actually be pretty simple for you, with this cat, since we know that he will take a few bites of the canned food. That means you know he will eat it. BUT, if he has access to dry food 24/7, he is going to pick dry over the canned. It's like a kid having McDonalds in front of him and broiled chicken and broccoli in front of him. Of course, he is going to pick the McDonalds. So you need to get rid of the dry. Maybe just give the cat a small amount of dry at first, so he does not go hungry, but that's it. No 24/7 all you can eat kibble, or he will never eat the canned food.

I once sprayed the feliway in the spray form, and my big fat maine coon kitty started to have a sort of asthma attack. It freaked me out. He had never done that before. I do notice when I spray it in the room when he is not in it, and then he goes in it, he's ok, but if I spray it around him, that's when the breathing thing happened. I really have not used it much since that happened though, because it did freak me out. I think feliway is a good product, but I guess it's possible that something in it maybe does not react well with certain cats? I don 't know.

Leena, sorry you have such a mean mommy that won't let you chew on those awesome cords. My mommy doesn't let me do that either frown She also won't let me climb the drapes any more.....she is no fun at all. I am almost a year old, but I still want to behave like a little kitten, so I keep climbing the drapes when she is not around. I get to the top of the curtain rod, and then I can't get down. Growing up stinks, all the fun things you can't do any longer frown Mom bought me a big Armarkat cat tree, it is so cool, it has a crow's nest at the very tippy top that I love to sleep on....it makes me feel like the "KING OF THE WORLD"!, and my fat brother Taffy won't even climb up there, so it's all mine! That helps me get out some of my "climbing aggression". I have learned the horrible word NO, ugh, I DO NOT like that word one bit, but I sure know what it means. I have learned that I cannot scratch the couch and I cannot chew the cords. I think it just takes a while for us little guys to learn things like this. I guess mom knows what is good for us, so hopefully you will learn that awful word NO too, ugh, so you don't hurt yourself chewing on those cords. Moms are no fun sometimes!

Glad to hear an update. And no, I'm sure no one thinks badly of you. Only you know when the time is right, and you will know. I have never been in this position with one of my cats, but I have with a dog once, and it was very hard, and we were not ready either. I'm glad to hear she is still herself and is hanging in there. Enjoy your time with her, take lots of pictures of her, make a video. These are things I'm trying to do now with my own pets, to remember to take more videos! Such a precious thing to have forever. You just have to take it one day at a time, as goofy as that sounds. Hugs to you and kitty smile

Cats and a Clean Home > littler types you like

I LOVE the Breeze Litter System. The pellets are similar in size to the feline pine, but they are plastic, so they don't break down. The sit in a tray that has a grate over the bottom and a pee pad catches all the pee, it goes through and is absorbed onto the super absorbent pad. So no pee clumps, no pee odor, until you change the pad. You go through one pad a week for one cat, with two cats, you need to change it about every 4 days....you could go a little longer, but I don't recommend it. This is NOT a litter box for you if you are a lazy type of litter box cleaner, but if you are one who scoops the poop the moment it drops, or at least once a day, this is great! There is NO litter tracking, occasionally one of the pellets will get flicked out by the cats, you just toss it back in. The litter system is about $33 right now at Target, there is a 10 coupon inside the box, and I know Petsmart will let you open the box and use the coupon toward that purchase (I got two this way), so I think if you asked the manager at Target, they would let you too. It goes on sale now and then at Petsmart, I got mine on sale for $29 and with coupon it was only $19, and I got two. Like I said, if you don't like to scoop it all the time, then don't get this one, but if you do scoop right away and change that pad once a week, you won't even know it's there. I have two and I also have a third box with those crystal bead thingy's, but I just started using those today. One cat used it so far and he was like "what the heck is this stuff", but he used it! The pellets cost $7-8 at target (cheapest I have found) and the pads, a 4 pack is less than $5, also Target, and that will last you a month for one cat. Every month I take the whole thing out and hose it, and weekly, I spray the tray that holds the pee pad with a non-toxic eco friendly cleaner, and wipe it with paper towel. Took the cats a good month to start using it exclusively, but now, I swear they like it better because it is so clean. One side note, if your cat is prone to diarrhea, do not get this, it is gross to clean with that, but otherwise, it is a compltely awesome system, I love it, A+++, even worth the "occasional" bout of diarrhea that my kitten gets from eating God knows what. NO LITTER TRACKING!!!! And that is awesome in my book! And NO smell, until you change the pad, then yeah, the pee STINKS, but only when you open it. LOVE IT!!!

Oh Keri....i am crying with you frown Since you are asking, I can only tell you what I would do. I cannot stand to see any animal in pain, and after dragging out my dying dog's poor life an extra year, because my husband couldn't bear to say goodbye, I agreed that I could never do that again to a pet I loved. I would let her go frown My SIL's cat threw a clot in Feb and she was slowly losing movement of each limb and she couldn't bear to let the vet let her go, and I was begging her to please let her go...it was awful. I know that especially when it comes to kitties, I can't watch them suffer. Hard as it will be for you, and it will suck, you have to be strong for her and say goodbye. You don't want to prolong her agony. Go with her, hold her, hug her, tell her you love her, maybe they can make a paw print for you....I've seen some vets do that, and let her go.

I am so very sorry and I a mess writing this. This is the absolute worst thing about having pets, having to say goodbye to them. There is not much things worse. Try to be strong for her, she needs you to be that way right now. You have to be the strong one right now. So sorry frown

I am so very sorry to hear about your little old guy. What a beautiful boy he was. I can't even imagine the pain of losing a cat that has been with you for 21 years, especially given all that you went through with him. I imagine you will have many memories of Shadow. Maybe when your heart is ready, you can rescue a kitty in need and maybe it will help heal your heart? That has always helped me. Again, so sorry to hear about the loss of your precious boy.

Poor thing, he can't help it. That would be a wonderful thing for you to do, to trap him and get him fixed. Then maybe you can convince one of the 5 neighbors feeding him to take him in. We are so lucky, we have a place in Orlando, where I live, actually 30 minutes from Orlando, that spays and neuters very cheaply....like $50 for the whole thing, and you only have to show rabies cert. They are responsible for spaying and neutering so many cats right now, and lots of rescues that take care of ferals are bringing cats in...it is just wonderful. Maybe you have a place like this where you are, that can help you? Make sure he gets ear tipped if you do bring him in, so animal control will see that he is fixed and not mess with him. I'm sure he will settle down once he is fixed. Are your cats possibly not fixed and that is why he is trying to get near them? He sound like he is just hungry and looking for someone to make him their pet, poor little guy, I hope he gets a home soon. And hope he stops terrorizing your babies too!
