Up until a few months ago, I had never heard of this. A fungal infection caused by contact with infected bird droppings. Now, I know first hand it's horrible effects.

I keep my cats indoors. Once in a while, one of them will sneak outside. Spaz got in the backyard several months ago. Last month, she developed a large fluid filled lump on her nose & problems with her left eye. The vet diagnosed cryptococcosis, and the prognosis, due to her age, was not good. Even with treatment, her condition was slow to improve. The fluid was drained, only to return within a day or two. Her eye got worse. And then the neural problems started, She would walk in circles & fall over. Then she started losing weight. Some days, she would eat a full bowl of food, other days she wouldn't eat at all. These last few days, she wouldn't eat at all. Yesterday, the lump on her nose suddenly disappeared & I thought she was going to get better. She died in her sleep early this morning.

Today, August 26, Shadow's daughter Spaz crossed the bridge after a long battle with cryptococcosis, just 3 weeks after her 14th birthday. She appeared to be improving a few days ago, but her condition quickly deteriorated yesterday. She died peacefully in her sleep. Mother & daughter are now reunited over the bridge.

Thanks everyone. Just as I was trying to accept that Shadow is gone, something else terrible has happened. This morning, my 3 year old Misschief aka Little Miss, died. I've lost 2 over the course of 5 days. I just want everyone to know their passing so close together was a horrible coincidence & the causes were unrelated. I can smile knowing that they are now together after being apart for 4 days & that they will never be separated again.

My 15 year old senior Shadow passed away late this afternoon. I still remember the day I picked her up at the pet store back in 1998. I'm really going to miss her.

Less than a month ago, Popeye crossed the bridge suddenly. Tonight, I lost his sister Princess. I had both of them from the day they were born.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Sadly, I must relive all of this. Popeye's littermate, Princess, crossed the bridge today. They are together again.

Popeye died suddenly today.I noticed he was sick this afternoon (he was perfectly fine yesterday), being lethargic & wouldn't eat. 10 minutes after I noticed this, he was gone. I didn't even have time to get him to a vet, it was so sudden. He was a big friendly cat. He's now over the bridge with his uncle Ash, who died back in October.cry
