Food & Nutrition > Fussy Kitten...advice?

Merlin- I know that wet food is better for cats, due to many reasons. But I can't simply afford to keep her on the wet food diet, and I want to switch her over to a grain-free kibble. Maybe giving her a can a day of wet..that is what would be ideal for me at the point in time.

Because as of right now she eats two pouches, or two small cans daily. An all of those small prices are adding up in to a big price, and result in using a lot of gas for driving to the pet store constantly as I do not buy cases of the wet pouches.

Thank you, for info on just sticking to one cat food. I never knew that if you provide them with variety that they will often become finicky. I thought it'd actually prevent it, but as I see it is not. MOL. I think my best bet is to just keep her on the Natural Balance Pouches for now.smile

Food & Nutrition > Fussy Kitten...advice?
Nevah

Nevah Merlot is my most recent rescue as most of you know. She is on a wet food diet, not by my choice, as I don't think she really knows how to eat kibble.

Anyway, so here is whats going on. I generally rotate her between three grain-free wet cat food diets. Chicken Soup:Kitten Formula, Felidae Salmon Kitten Formula, and Natural Balance pouched kitten food. Occasionally, she will get 9 lives pate formulas, FF Pate, or Friskies. Which she loves, but I am trying to keep her grain free. As of recently she will not eat Felidae, Chicken Soup, now its getting where she won't eat her Natural balance.

So, I am stumped on what to do because she isn't eating, and I am worried she is not getting the carbs that she needs.

Any advice on what I can do, and any way I can possible get her to eat more kibble? As that is what all my other cats eat.

Milo,
No worries about the hissing. I recently rescued Nevah, and all three of my older cats hissed at first at Nevah-they still do occasionally. My dog too adores the little kitten. As others have said eventually they will adapt to one other. Seems to me you're doing everything right by letting them interact while under supervision.wishes

Cat Health > Nevah has a very serious heart murmur...

Nevah

So, I took Nevah in to the vet today. My vet told me that she has a very serious heart murmur to the point he asked me the question of whether I wanted to put Nevah to sleep or not. Off-course I said "No" as I feel she deserves a fighting chance.

I am just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and could tell me the do's and don'ts when raising a kitten with severe heart.

I know as she gets older I can eventually put her on a heart supplement. I would like to begin my research now though on supplements so I know ahead of time what kind to get and not end up getting a cheap bad one.

Also, being that she is not the healthiest. Is there a certain food that I should have her on? I know the obvious wet food diet and grain free. Which she is on Felidae.

Also, I have read on the internet about some average and typical lifespans for cats with heart murmurs. I am curious to see though how long a cats life span is coming from a former or previous owner.

Help and Advice is greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,
Worried Cat Mom

Food & Nutrition > Need advice on feeding skinny kitten.

I too recently became a Mama to a young kitten, whom came from very poor conditions. Her bones are visible so I have her on a wet food diet as well. But I also give her vitamin supplements for extra energy and nutrition. I mix that in her wet food.

Indeed, an very beautiful marked kitten. She is probably just your typical Domestic Short-hair though. The calico coloration can be found in multiple different cat breeds, but I say Domestic Short-hair for their commonness as well as the fact I do not see and breed specific traits. If you'd like a cat of that coloration. I'd suggest checking out Petfinder , and I am sure you can find loads in your area. There is even a dilute calico coloration which is the grey, white, and orange. Rather than the black, white, and orange. Very pretty as well in my opinion. Keep in mind though they typically cats of these coloration are all females. happy dance

Food & Nutrition > Throwing his nose up...again! (Nutro or Holistic Select)

Thank you everyone for the information! I have been reading and hearing, many good things about the Holistic Select and I am finding myself leaning towards that brand. The nearest place that carries this food though is an hour drive, one way. So, the transition to a new cat food may need to wait a few weeks until I get my new debt card in the mail. That will certainly make life simpler, always have been nervous though of CC or DC, due to so much identity theft. Hubby convinced me though, that it will make our lives simpler.

Anyway, I have read many reviews on Nutro, so they still have my attention. I guess I have a few weeks to decide. The thing that concerns me are the grains that are contained in Nutro, as Brownie mentioned it seems to me that Holistic have better grains.

Thank you, Brownie as well for the other food suggestions. I will certainly take a look at the websites.

@ Shadow- To clarify things for the sake of a disagreement. Yes, I have been using Chicken Soup Dry for my cats and Taste of the Wild for me dog. The local pet store that I get my pet food from, checked every one of their bags during the recall. All of the bags they had in stock were all clear. So, no worries and I appreciate the concern greatly smile

As some know before the recall I had switched both Sylvester and Stinkers over to Chicken Soup Dry Adult Formula. At first both absolutely loved it, now once again Stinky is refusing to eat it and has been getting into the outdoor cats (neighborhood strays) meow mix. Which has been causing him to throw up.

This is the SECOND grain-free cat food that Stinky has done this with, first Taste of the Wild both venison and canyon river. Now, Chicken soup. I don't know the reason why he is doing this but it is become very stressful and taking a lot of money out of the budget. Any thoughts or suggestions on this, on why he could be doing this?

As of right now, I am thinking that perhaps he just doesn't like the grain-free diet. I am thinking of two brands...either NutroMax or Holistic Select. If anyone would care to give more information about them other than what I can find on their websites, that'd be awesome and greatly appreciated! kitty

Thanks!

I thought that article that Dorian wroth was simply lovely. Everything, she had stated is very true. We care for each of our animals, we ponder over which food to feed, what vet to take them too, worry if the sneeze for cripes sake. An its not only cats either, that this goes along with, its every animal that is in our home.

I have a dog, 2 cats, and mouse...and we're adopting a guinea pig, which we're bring home this weekend hopefully. Although, the guinea pig is not here yet, but the animals that are currently with me..I view them as my fur-kids, yes even Stewart my mouse. They are the most important thing to me, and my fiance of-course.
