Otto has a hurt shoulder...suggestions for treatment?

	Poor Otto, he's 14 years old, and is having trouble putting weight on his left front forepaw. We believe he might have fallen a couple of feet off our back deck, though we didn't see it happen. He is a true senior chocolate lab: blind, deaf, and has a wobbly rear end. His front end was very strong until this happened. I hesitate to take him to the vet because it will just stress him out more; I have some Carprofen and some buffered low dose aspirin, and am wondering if I should put a cold compress on his shoulder? He has gotten up a couple of times from his bed today, but you can tell it hurts him to put any weight on that foot. I am sure he did not break the leg, but looks like he might have strained a deep muscle. He just started to eat small amounts again; last night he vomited up his dog kibble, so we aren't feeding him that until can stomach it. I'm just wondering if a compress on his shoulder would help.
