Hi there, some of you know me already but just joined this group.
I wondered if any of you could share with me what you get fed as I use to be fed Royal Canin sensible 33, before I was diagnosed and perhaps this contributed to my sensitivity whilst Mum thought it was a good food to help. Anyway, I hear no grains is best, but should I just have wet or both wet and dry. What did or do you eat if you suffer from what I suffer from. I had an operation at Xmas to remove two masses which Im sure has made my digestion worse, so perhaps protein may be too hard to manage although the z/d and hydrolised Proteins also made me poop. Could do with some help please if you can. Thanks Purrr Louis
PS I live in the Uk, and I know most of you are based in the US but I would still like to see what you do Thanks
PPS. I was never diagnosed with IBD but perhaps I did have it all along and then it led to cancer.mummy is very upset and enjoying everyday she has with me. Purrr

Hi Louis!

It's very possible you may have had IBD before you were diagnosed with lymphoma. They haven't conclusively proven it but the research my mama has read suggests a progression from IBD to lymphoma in certain cats.

Even if you didn't have IBD, with the intestinal lymphoma, you now kind of do. Kitties with IBD should avoid grains and carbs and focus on protein. Here's a link to my friend Lisa's website. http://www.ibdkitties.net/ She lost a kitty to IBD and now works to provide support and information to others. You may have met Alex, Lisa's angel, here on Catster. Her website has a GREAT section on foods good for kitties with IBD and other intestinal disorders.

Chicken was always my downfall. It gave me diarrhea whenever I ate it. I'm a grazer so my mama couldn't leave wet food out for me all day. I have always eaten dry food with either turkey, lamb or duck as the main ingredient. I've done real well on Royal Canin Duck and Green Pea. There are a couple different flavors in the RC Limited Ingredient line (the lamb is good too).

Good luck to you Louis. We're purring for you and your family.

Hugs,
Sally Maria

Hiya Louis,
i would consult with your vet just to be sure and be on the right path.. as far as IBD, I had a cat who passe away last year as a result of IBD( complications from not finding it soon enough). When the vet tried to change his diet, they wanted him to eat a novel protein diet ( venison, duck... or some protein that he never had before because IBD is activated by certain foods like chicken, etc, the vets say to cut all of that out and start with a new protein that has never been in the cat's system. The only danger can be that if the kitty doesnt like the new diet, he or she can loose weight quickly so its important to keep close watch on whether cat is eating and if he is getting sick. Cats with IBD often throw up a lot and may end up needing sub q fluids if they get too dehydrated... So i would just check with the vet though just to be sure as far as what he or she recommends, giving your baby's condition an the fact that surgery was just done. I think if any intestines removed, its going to take some time for body to get used to food and it has to be given in very small doses if they removed part of intestine, but just check with him or her.. and they should tell u what to feed ur baby and in what quantities. I hope your little baby feels better soon and big kisses and purrs for being such a brave kitty with surgery...hug
