Hello Paws Friends! My name is Phoebe, i`m maybe 4/5 years old? I was found 2 months ago by my new mummy behind her door after i spend 2 hrs yelling, she said she thought it was the neighbour cat, but when she opened the door i went to her... i was so hungry and tired... she took me in, gave me food or shelter for that night telling me she would find my mummy for me... well that never happened..they never come back for me.

My new mum toke me 3 times to a vet, she is really fussy about my health and wanted to check if i`m ok. Vets kept saying yes, but she kept being worried that i was dumped cause of illness. So she took me to a new vet, and this one listened to her carefully and said, 'she seems fine, but a blood test is needed to say she IS fine', and blood/urine test was done. I behaved as always and the nurses where really fussy about my sky blue eyes! Well from the results i`m in my early stage of CRF cat and my result is the following:-

Mum cried a lot even though i`m with her for only 2 months! I heard her say to my grandma that Kidney Disease is fatal, and that she never had a cat with this condition so she doesn`t really know what to do. She also said that she does`nt want to give up on me, and she will not send me away.

Now i`m taken Hill`s products for kidney disease cats and from Novartis - fortekor half a pill daily. I must say i`m not really behaving in eating everything and mum is crying again. What to do to make mum happy and me healthy? It seems it`s important to my new mummy!

Thanks
Phoebe

Phoebe, you're lucky to have found such a good, caring new mommy! Please don't think of kidney disease as a death sentence. It's simply a condition that must be managed. I've managed mine for 6 1/2 years, and I'm still doing great (though I know I've been really lucky). You might get to the point where you need to do subcutaneous fluids at home, and most cats do just fine with it. It's not a big deal, so don't worry if the vet ever suggests that. But for now, best of luck with your new food and the medicine! Keep us posted!

Dear Phoebe,

When I was diagnosed with CRF, Mom cried so much. I went on for almost 2 years, but I was already 14 years old too. For the whole time, I kept my throne as king of the household; with 3 other males in the house.......hahaha.

Everyone said that Mom would know when it was time; well, CRF is a disease that can be compared to a rollercoaster. For instance, 1 day Mom thought that was it for me, the next day I was fine.
Please tell your Mom not give up quickly, because as I said it's a roller coaster.

Mom gave me sud-Q fluids every other day, and pills too. Every once in a while, I would get an infection, and would have to go on meds for that too. I was a very loving cat, so when I started showing aggression , when Mom was trying to do these things to me, she knew it was probably almost time; and it was.

One thing that Mom does n't do anymore, is she doesn't get any of my brothers and sisters their shots. There have been tests proving that there may be a link to different deseases and these vaccines. My siblings, all 8 of them, are all house cats, so Mom doesn't worry.

It seems that you have youth on your side, so live life to the fullest everyday, and a word of advice........."Never go after a humans' ankles"....lmao.

With love,
Charlie
