Julius, meanwhile, thought to DISARM the birds by mewing softly as he approached them. Most of the birds were wary of the mewing kitten, but one bluebird was caught off guard, thinking that if the young orangie was a friend of Percival's, he must be okay. He flew down from his branch and made a RANDOM pass in Julius' direction, as if to say "Welcome, furriend!" Percival, his attention drawn to the fluttering of wings, turned to ADMIRE the bluebird's lovely color. Percival's infatuation with the birds' beauty was matched only by Julius' ARDENT desire to catch one of the feathered beauties unawares. It was Julius who was unaware, however: unaware that the unseen guardian of the birds was about to RENDER his desire to hunt the birds down to nothing. As Julius prepared to pounce on the unsuspecting bluebird, the protector of the birds was at the ready on an overhanging branch, preparing to drop a net on Julius. "I'll bet this DETERS him!" thought the stranger. To give the stranger CREDIT, he didn't want to hurt Julius, only to teach him not to hurt the birds.
