I LOVE to go outdoors. However, there have been reports of coyotes, fishercats and foxes in our town. They come out mostly at night, so Meowmy will not let me out after supper (see my two most recent diary entries for details.) Meowmy's paranoia about these animals has been fueled all the more by a neighbor telling her that he has seen a fox in his yard twice recently and a hawk flying around.

It is totally unfair that these mean animals who like to eat kitties are walking around free while I, the great Smokey, am locked into my house after supper.

So, my dear friend, Ishtar, and I are beginning a campaign to gain my freedom by locking up everything that could hurt a kitty. It started out as the "Free Smokey, Jail the Coyotes" campaign, but since so many other animals (not to mention cars, bad humans and the mean yellow jacket who stung Ishtar) have been added to the list that we now need a new slogan. Also, Ishtar made some great banners, but again they only had a coyote on them. We need something to symbolize all the evil kitty-hurting things. Ishtar will put up links to the banners so you can get an idea.

We invite everyfur who is interested to send ideas to this thread. We want to know what you think!

Purrs for freedom,
Smokey

wave

this is the first and original FREE SMOKEY-banner:

banner

as you can see - it covers canides and foxes. but none of the other creatures the free world does not need confused

so the next idea was to create kind of a logo for the campaign. it'd be like this - or close to that:

banner

so, question is: what are your ideas for a symbol to fill the "forbidden"-circle OR do you have new ideas for banners???

Maybe we could borrow a phrase and call the campaign:

CATS: TAKE BACK THE NIGHT!

with beautiful glowing eyes and long kittie whiskers for our symbol. Meowmie said she would draw it for us but she doesn't know how to post a banner. Any help on this?

I'm all for the Free Smokey campaign. I would like to see alligators added to the list. One of those bad things ate a friend of mine a couple of years ago. I'd also like to have fleas and ticks put on the list. It's because of these things, that I can't go outside AT ALL anymore.

thinking i wonder if there can be a symbol - fleas and alligators and coyotes and wasps all have such different weapons shock not to mention those ugly human things - cars and so on...

glad you're here with us, meep! i am curious what your mommy will draw for us (were my hints helpful?)...
glad you joined us, greyson!

spread the news so we can start a might march for smokey's and our rights!!! [well, in fact, marching will be your job for i'll never ever climb into a plane - or do i have wings???]

Hey, - my cousin Greyson is here! YAY! applause Yes, alligators, fleas and ticks should definately be added to the list.

You kitties all have wonderpur ideas. I like the glowing eyes and "take back the night", Meep. I know this started out as "Free Smokey", but it's really about all of us.

Yesterday, Meowmy read in the paper about a hawk attacking right in our town. My next door neighbor has seen a hawk and he also saw a fox in his yard. This just can't continue.

BTW, during my daytime hours outside, I've recently caught two birds and a chipmunk. Hopefully, the birds and chipmunks won't unite against us! shock

hi All!
I've just reminded meowmie she promised to make a banner. She said she was sorry she has not done it yet but will get on it this weekend. I hope whatever she draws scares the bad animals away. I live in an urban place and we had wild turkeys right outside the building and a hawk that landed in the tree outside my window. That was one big bird. I'm pretty big cat but that thing could have done some serious damage. We've even had a moose wander down from way up north. I feel bad for all the animals because they are losing their homes but its just not fair that they want to eat us cats for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The rodent population is getting out of control because we cannot get out and take care of them. I want to go outside and cry at the door and meowmie just won't open it for me.
I will keep pestering her until she draws the banner. She may need more help with directions, I will keep you posted.

I'm curious, too. It will be difficult to come up with something that includes all the things we need to scare away. It seems as though more get added all the time. Now that fall is almost here, it's starting to get dark earlier. Right now I can go out until suppertime, but before long it will be dark even before supper and my curfew will get earlier. This is so distressing. Does anyone know how to make the sun stay out longer?

have you tried locking all ugly things in a closed box? perhaps the sun is a scary creature and tries to escape ugliness...
