Last Wednesday I took my 8 year old Milo to get a check up. He was looking skinny and use to be overweight. He just wasn't himself that past few weeks. Throwing up all the time.
I Was not expecting to hear CRF as his diagnoses. eek
I lost it! I couldn't believe my poor guy was having kidney issues and I didn't even notice. They gave him injected fluids and some different brands of wet and dry food to try. He was looking healthier after 2 days. Almost back to normal. He is eating and drinking without vomiting.cheer

This week once I get some more cash he is going in for 2 day stay with IV fluids and getting his meds. Plus I have to get a big bag of the food he likes. Medi Cal Low Protein and Hill Science Diet K/D. He likes the Medi Cal.
He is not big one can good. He likes the new Meow mix real meat stuff...I add extra water to make it soupy and he loves it. I wish he'd eat the low protein wet food tho, but nope. Miss Georgie will tho, she'll eat anything. lol
I have been pretty upset about this...of course, but his treatment will prevent us from moving to a nicer place. Talk about bad timing for us yet good timing for Milo.

Hi, Milo--I'm so sorry for your diagnosis! I remember how awful that first week (several weeks, actually!) was after the initial diagnosis, so I can relate. It is overwhelming! But it sounds like you are doing all the right things. I hope you've had time to read over some of the threads about eating, but don't worry too much if you don't like the low-protein foods as much. It most likely wouldn't make a truly significant difference. The fluids should help you more than anything. So is your creatinine high enough that you need to go to the vet for a couple of days and get fluids in an IV? Many of us give our kitties fluids on a regular basis at home, but we do it subcutaneously (just under the skin). The vet can train you to do this, and it's really not as hard as it sounds. No big deal, and it's not that expensive. But good luck--I do know it's a shock emotionally, as well as to the wallet! But cats can live a long time with this, and it will get better, I promise!

Sorry it took so long to respond--it's been a crazy month, and I haven't checked as I should! Keep us posted how you're doing!

We've got the S-fluids we do at home, but been told he doesn't need them immediately. They said to use the fluids when I see he needs them. So far so good. It's been 3 weeks and Milo is doing well. Eating, drinking using the litter box and taking his meds like a pro. hail
It's been hard, just waiting to see what will happen next for him. I am hoping Milo won't need fluids for awhile.
I have been doing my best to take of my CRF boy. We've spent about $850 on him so far. shock
Wow Abbie you are doing well with your CRF diagnoses and treatment. Gives us hope here. hug

Oh yes, you should definitely have lots of hope! I was diagnosed in 2003 and have had NO progression. I've only gotten better, as a matter of fact. My creatinine is actually currently in the normal range, and my BUN is only very slightly elevated. I credit the fluids with getting those numbers to be--and stay--so good. But I hope you won't have to resort to the fluids for a good, long time as well. Good luck, and as I said, keep us posted!
