How common is Hyperthyroidism in older Siamese?

At my last vet visit, my vet told my mommy that I have "borderline hyperthyoidism" and that it is common in geriatric cats (I'm offended that he called me geriatric, but...). Do you any of you in this group know anything about this condition? Just wondering...
