 | | | | Hi everyone! I live in Hazleton, PA with my moms and 3 other cats, Murphy, Rusty and Skittles.
When I was about 8 weeks old, my mommies noticed that I would pant when I played too much (and I love to play). They took me to the vet and he heard a heart mumur. The vet thought that I should see a cardiologist to find out what was wrong, before I would be neutered.
My wonderful cardiologist is about 100 miles away, but well worth the trip. Even though I am not the most patient cat in a crate. I love to sit in the crate in the house, but in the car, I want to look out the windows and see things! The humans just don't understand. But anyway,
The cardiologist did an x-ray and ultrasound and found that I have a VSD and several other heart deformities. I have a hole between my left and right ventricles (VSD), an enlarged right ventricle (which actually, at this point seems to help me compensate for having the hole). I also have an unusual pulmonarty artery and what they call and overiding aorta. I have a tendency to pant when I am overly excited and sometimes my nose, my mouth and my paws will lose their bright pink color. After a minute or less, they return to their healthy state. The cardiologist said this is something like what newborns sometimes have and are refered to as "blue babies". In humans, this can be corrected with a very routine surgery, but not with cats. yet.
I was able to be neutered at the hospital where my cardiologist practices, but I was already a year old and just a ball of hormones. I sprayed and I picked on my furry family. They were starting to dislike me, they didn't like how aggressive I had become. They kept me overnight and monitored me, and I did just fine. I came home, stopped spraying and have finally made peace with my furry family.
I was back to see the cardiologist in January and don't have to go back until next year. When I was there in January, they did blood work, a urine test and an ultrasound and everthing looks pretty good. When I go back, the cardiologist would like to do an angiogram, but I am a little nervous about that.
What do I like? My little plastic springs that I carry around the house, playing tag with Skittles, and watching cartoons on TV (I love Angelina, Ballerina, I even have a poster of her! I also enjoy reading the posts here and seeing everyones great pictures. | | | | |
