My Mom says one of her favorite memories of me at Christmas is of me sleeping beneath the Christmas tree looking like one of her many Christmas toys and snowmen she would have around the tree.. she said I would look just like one as I slept among the presents.

There is one traditional dish that if Mom doesn't make it the kids won't come to the house for the holidays. I like to lick on it too!cloud 9cheercheer

It's called HEAVENLY HASH!

What you need is:

1 Large box strawberry jello.
1 8 oz Container Cool Whip
1 8oz Container small curd cottage cheese
1 Large can sweetened pineapple chunks
1 Large can fruit cocktail
Half bag marshmallows

Drain pineapple and fruit cocktail and while the fruit is draining mix together well, the Cool Whip, Cottage Cheese and Jello. Take the drained fruit and half the bag of marshmallows and fold it into the jello, Cool Whip, Cottage Cheese mixture. Pile into a pretty glass bowl. Chill at least four hours.

DONE!!

It's a taste you will not forget and will give you a tummy ache Mom says cuz you can't get enough. hughug

thinkingthinkingthinking well, as some of you already know, my family comes from Puerto Rico. My Mom tells me that in PR Xmas begins with Halloween and ends by the end of January.
They used to do what's call "parrandas" which is getting a group of people together, and dropping into friends' house unexpectedly, in the middle of the night, with lots of musical instruments, cans, sticks, and al kind of noisy stuff to sing, eat and drink. But it has to be when everybody at the house is sleeping, that's the fun part of it, they just get to the house, and they shout: "asalto!", which means "assault" , then they get in (....if they open the door, BOL!) and pawty all night long till the sun comes out.wink

Roxie must know 'bout this, right girl?laugh out loud

Oh Brandii what memeries. About the paranda this happen for real. My grandfather owns a grocery store and one night he closed it very late it was around Christmas time, he was so tired he got home took a quick shower and went to bed, about 35 minutes later we heard a loud noise what happen was a tree branch fell on top the garage, just as grandpa was trying to removed the branch a paranda showed up and saw grandpa in his undies, oh how we all laughed and poor grandpa missed the parranda.big laughbig laughbig laugh

wave Hi Roxie, I knew you were going to like itlaugh out loud
My family lived in San Juan (Rio Piedras), specifically at Country Club. My Mom still has an aunt living in Carolina, she's 87 years "young", and one of her 6 granddaughters lives in Cayey. The other 5 live here in FL.
My Mom has promised to take me someday to PR she says it's beautiful there.
So your Grandpa has his "asalto navideņo" right, he, he, he, that must have been so funny.

This is only my 2nd Xmas but my Mom has had many, many, many, many (FRODO!!) .....................oops.
One of Mom's best memories is from when she was very little. Her Mom always read "Twas the Night Before Christmas" to Mom and her siblings, on Xmas eve at bedtime.
Dad would go outside and jingle some bells and say HoHoHo.
Mom always thought it really was Santa (I think she still believes it). The kids would all squeal, jump into bed and close their eyes tight 'cause Santa doesn't deliver presents if the kids are awake.
