Mom and Dad got up at 4:30 am and were at the polls at 6:10. And waited for 25 minutes in line - at 6:10! They had never seen sp many happy, smiling faces. Its a miracle. Mom was online all day (she got laid off in September) looking at polls.
They went to a house party last night, and stayed through the very end. Everyone was cheering and crying - and we all started singing God Bless America - even went outside to sing to the neighborhood.
Got to bed at 2 am NYC time.
Woo hoo!!

Mommy went to the headquarters of the Pierce County Democratic party in Tacoma, WA at about 10AM, went canvassing until 2PM, came back and helped setup for the election night party and stayed until 9:45PM.

There weren't any lines at mom's polling place. She voted around one, did some canvassing afterward, but came home after a couple of hours. They had so oversaturated the neighborhood that we were running into each other looking for the same houses. Ours was the only county in central Missouri to go blue. The rest of the state was fire-engine red other than a few counties around St. Louis and Kansas City. So I guess that oversaturation worked! We went to a watch party that night but it ended shortly after the announcment. Mom wished she had been around Obama supporters so she could have seen their reaction but it was a small intimate gathering that was pretty much non-partisan, and mom controlled her joy until she got home. She's been flying high ever since. It almost doesn't seem real.

Meowmy got to her polling place at 6:20. They opened at 7:00. She was about the 9th person in line and got right in to vote. She went to work, came home turned on the news and went onto Catster and was very happy when she woke up the next morning.

We paced nervously until our human companion left to watch the results with somebody ELSE's
cat on her lap. Then we cried and cheered and drank beer and we all watched election night coverage until the middle of the night.

My Mom worked as a poll worker here in California, so was "out of touch" from 6am until 8pm. When she ran out to her car after the polls closed, she was inundated with texts that the election had already been called for Obama!!! She ran back into the precinct and told the other volunteers.

It was an amazing moment of joy after the disappointments of the last 8 years!!!hailhailhail
