Hello everypurr! wave
I went to the v-e-t for my physical, and I got some scary unexpected news.
In my bloodwork, my vet did an antibody test for heartworm. The next day the v-e-t called mom and said my heartworm test was positive! She asked if she could do a more definitive test and of course mom said yes! The second test revealed that I do not have heartworm, but that I was exposed to it!
Yes, me an indoor cat! We thought you got heartworm from mosquitos. But the scientists are finding that there are other nasty insects that carry heartworm, including cockroaches. Those gross things are everywhere! So I was exposed to heartworm but luckily my immune system is still good enough that I fought it off!
There is no real effective treatment for heartworm in kitties.
So what's a mom to do? My mom is going to do a better job of using Revolution on me and my fursibs. Even though we don't have a flea problem, she will use the product on us as ordered in order to keep us from getting a heartworm infection.
Mom was very worried about me for two days until we got the good news that I don't have a heartworm or two growing inside of me. So effuryone, be careful too! Especially those of us with FHV!
