Shula, a clipping mask is kind of a tool in Photoshop, with the "Create Clipping Mask" tool but first you need a shape. You put the shape into a layer beneath the layer your photo is in, then with the photo layer selected you click "Create Clipping Mask". Photoshop cuts your photo to fit the shape. You can do it with just a circle if you know how to make a circle in its own layer.
Here is a pretty good tutorial, it covers both types of Photoshop: http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/photoshop/ss/pictureinashape.htm
Here is another one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-SJyRZvmN4 and more than just clipping masks I didn't know about!
Here is a simple free clipping mask: www.pixelscrapper.com/marisa-lerin/templates/circle-mat-mask-image-c ommercial-use-digital-scrapbooking-free-download
