We are moving out of the Country!!!!! (Don't worry we will still be on Catster. Does anycat have any suggestions on plane travel? (We will be sedated) We will start the journey going to Miami from Albany. Aprx. 10-12 hrs. We will stay for about a week and then Fly to Qatar with multiple stops. Aprx. 24 hrs.
Qatar is a peninsula off of Saudi Arabia and is 100-140 degrees. We will not be allowed outside.
So anycat got advice? Cat carriers? Can mewmy hold us mid-flight? (She wants to.)
This is a big step for the whole family and mewmy is very nervous. Pls purray for us.

Hi Sunrise and Rainbow,
Love your names!
I suggest your mom get in touch with the airline you will be flying with.
They have different rules, I think.
One thing for sure you need airline approved carriers.
Glad you will be indoor kitties, safer that way.
Please let us know how you are doing.

Love and purrs

Meowlo you two sweeties!

OMC that *is* a big move! Meowmy would be scared too, so don't worry wink

Unfortunately I don't have any experience with these kind of things, but my dear furriend Lancelot moved to Spain from the US recently, so purrhaps you could pawmail him for some tips! He is a very sweet guy and I am sure will be happy to help!

Another purrson that flew recently was Aldo, and although it wasn't an international flight he might still be able to give you some info!

Good luck sweetie!

Guys,

I have heard it is better NOT to sedate...that way, the kits can manage the travel themselves and not be confused. We moved from TX to CO and were half sedated and it was very scary...we have moved many times since..y0u know, 4-7 days in the car and after the first couple of hours we adjust fine. Have a serious talk with your vet. We will be purring like crazy for you guys!

Dear Sunrise and Rainbow --

I do hope the airlines flying you has maximum temperature has limits. Angel Tutti had to fly from Denver to NYC and while that was only in the highs of 90s, the airliner (Continental) would not fly her when the average was over 85 degrees. Grandma and grandpaw took her there three times before she could fly. That is SO important -- the status of the hold where the animals are. DO be safe rather than in a hurry.

Typically small carriers are recommended because there is not jostling. But in your case I would say get a small dog kennel, put cat beds and a little dirt box in it if they let you, and put two water bowls or other water sources in it. If you can be in one box together, it might be best. I have just such a small dog carrier and it makes a huge difference for two cats to go together -- let me know if you want a picture of the size I'm talking about.

Finally, be sure you have ALL the shots and ALL the documentation before you go!

Good luck!!!
