Everything is going to be ok.
I still had my stitches when Mom got me. Yes, just like any surgery there is some tenderness and I had a little infection after the stitches came out that was easily treated. The remaining disolvable stitches did take longer to "go away" than Mom had anticipated, but she doesn't have any other experience to rely on. And of course there are antibiotics and pain meds. Veternary medicine parallels human medicine in most ways.
I had an injury and they tried for a few weeks to save my eye and see if it would heal enough so as not to bother me. But it didn't and continued to be painful. It was a relief to be free of the pain. And I adjusted right away. This is all Mom was told of what happened.
I do have a little blind spot that you don't notice unless you study my actions for awhile. Whoever plays fetch with me tries to toss in a way that I see which way the toy went. But honestly, I just get so excited playing that I have trouble paying close attention, BOL, and I like to be silly and dash around even after I've found it anyway!
I'm very happy and don't mind having just one eye.
I'm leaving on vacation for a few weeks tomorrow (wed) and right now don't know if I'll be able to go online while away. I'm sorry I might not be available, I'd love to help in any way I can.
Try posting your group forum message to the "group messages". This doesn't seem to be a very active group that would check to see if there is a forum thread (I've been here myself for a few days) and maybe some of them will receive a group message in their pawmail.
If that doesn't work, check out the pages of the group admins and some group members and take a stab at p-mailing one that you feel comfortable with.
There is also a "health" forum in the "Forums" section of both Dogster & Catster that you can try if you haven't already.
Good luck. If removal is what your vet recommends, then it is for the best. Get a second opinion if you want to, you're allowed.
Mom's actually been thinking of starting a thread asking others to share ways their single sight has been "lucky". Mom almost renamed me that, and other continue to suggest it. I don't know if she'd have been as drawn to me if my missing eye hadn't made her curious. (Well, actually I probably would have won her over with my charm anyway, but we may never have met as I might not have needed to be rescued.)
I will check back on you as soon as I am able.
