I had done quite a bit of research about getting an AKK and I am ready to be on a waiting list. I contacted one of the breeders that was listed on the akkaoa.org website but I haven't heard back from them(it's been 2 months). Is there a reputable breeder that anyone can refer me to? I would really appreciate it.

We got Helix from Wiebelhusky. We really liked Alan and Barb- there are some things that they do that I know wouldn't be approved by the people who demand perfect breeders, but we were very happy with them. They have a lot of dogs, but they all live in/around the house (they have it set up so there is a room in the back of the house that the dogs have access to while being outside, there are also kennels in a barn because the males and females need to be kept apart laugh out loud. The pups all get raised in the kitchen so they are used to people and being held as well as normal house noises. The dogs all take turns sleeping in their bedroom too. As far as I know, no AKK are health tested for anything because they really have no health issues (except for factor V deficiency which isn't a big issue). They do keep extensive pedigrees though so they know if anything would show up in their breeding lines. They are usually pretty good about answering e-mails but if you don't hear from them in a reasonable amount of time I would definitely try again (I know they had e-mail issues a while back because we couldn't get a hold of them!). Thank you so much. I will give them a try. I would really like to rescue an AKK but I guess they are such wonderful pups none need rescuing ha ha.

Helix, they got back to me right away we discussed adopting an older dog. They are so professional and accommodating. Thank you SO much for the referral. We will definitely be using them!

That's fantastic! We really liked Alan and Barb and we are still in touch with them to talk about Helix. They just seem like really good people and they care a lot about their dogs. Have you seen their newest addition, Reba? She's a red AKK with blue eyes- she's gorgeous! There are very few red AKK and they had a litter of 3 last year. Reba is already championed and she's under a year old! Her picture is on their main page under "Our Dogs".

I used Kika's Klee Kai in Riverside, CA (http://www.kikaskleekai.com/) - Desarie is the breeder and is great. She answers emails quickly and answers all questions. I was worried about waiting on the waiting list for quite some time, but we got our puppy within 1 month of applying. Desarie takes alot of time and effort to breed her puppies and screens buyers closely. She is a great breeder and I would recommend her to anyone serious about getting a Klee Kai.
