So has anyone had any bad experiences with ignorant Republicans. And let me just say that there is a difference between well-informed and reasonable ones who merely have a different opinion than us....and the just plain stupid and ignorant ones, and I think the guy I'm about to describe definitely qualifies. (sadly, mom always seems to attract the ignorant ones) Mom went to a karaoke bar last weekend. There was a guy there wearing a blatantly offensive shirt. It had a picture of Hillary Clinton with red devil eyes and an aggressive look on her face and then it had a picture of Obama wearing a turban. Under Hillary it said NO and under Obama it said HELL NO! In addition he went up to a Muslim gentlman in the bar and knocked off his turban and was picking fights with people all over the bar. He was eventually kicked out and rightfully so. The worst part is that this person is in my daddy's law school classes! I don't think we'll ever be hanging out with him.
Wow!!! No we have not encountered one that was physically harassing people like this guy was. it is absolutely scary that he is studying law.
However, we have run into several that are just plain ignorant when it comes to listening to facts. One just recently was still trying to tell mom that the weapons were in Iraq and they drove them across the border. Even the crazy administration has had to admit that was wrong. There is just no reasoning with these people.
Mom does not get out much (no money and in general crowds get on her nerves) so she does not have to deal with too much of it. She works in an office with one atty who has the same political views and because we work in the entertainment field, most of the people we deal with are Democrats.
Mom has learned over the years that when people have a valid argument they do not behave like that guy did. They are lashing out because 1.) if there was a valid argument, he could not articulate it, or 2.) he has nothing he can say, so he acts like a fool.
Either way, hopefully you won't have to see him again.
I think that he was pretty drunk but at the same time I think the lowering of his inhibitions allowed his deep prejudices to show themselves in ways that perhaps his sober self might have kept under wraps. Either way mom told dad that we would never be hanging out with this guy. Mom may not like John McCain's politics but she would never wear a shirt in public portraying him as a Manchurian Candidate, or any other such nonsense. It is a good thing that you are able to work with like minded people. I think you're lucky in that! We don't go out much either because we literally have no money. We're just living on student loans while mom tries to find a job. But the job market is so bad here in Michigan that we are trying to transfer back to Missouri. We should know in a few weeks whether or not dad did well enough on last semester's finals for us to do that. The whole night just went bad so that mom wished we hadn't gone. Our ride left us so everyone was upset by that, mom was upset by the shirt guy, then the karaoke DJ was super rude, plus there just didn't seem to be much point in singing because the bar was so loud mom couldn't hear well enough to sing. If she had to do it over again mom would have stayed home and watched a movie.
Yes, obviously the guy dressed himself before he was drunk and was looking to get a reaction. It sounds miserable all the way around. Mom would much rather stay home with us these days. She used to live in St. Louis and went out a lot, but she has had no money since she came here in 1989. She hates to go out to spend a little money and comes home irritated. She is not spending money to go out to a movie and listen to people talk. She used to go to concerts, but the last few were annoying because there is always someone in every row that walks in and out of the row a dozen times. If we get out of the main cities here we run into a lot of Republicans. It really is just better to stay home and cuddle kitties. We hope things get better on your next venture out.
According to my mom, stupidity isn't just a trait reserved for some Republicans, it's an inherent part of human nature. HOOMINS, for the most part, are stupid, some are just MORE stupid, more often, than others.
According to my mom, the ones who are the stupidest, the most often, should be hunted down and sterilized before they have a chance to breed. Of course, she doesn't say this out loud much, because she gets accused of being a Nazi....
Of course, mom has written in Frank Zappa's name TWICE in the last three presidential elections (once after he was dead), as a protest against the really stupid choices she felt she was given. Maybe nobody paid any attention, but it made her feel better, and at least she had the slim satisfaction of knowing she had made an intelligent choice (a dead Frank Zappa was, in her mind, a better choice than a second term with ol' brain-dead Bushie).
Of course, the older mom gets, the more appealing the idea of anarchy becomes to her. At least then nobody will have to worry about those dumb-a** screw-ups in Washington messing things up worse than they already are - MOL!
By the way, mom is a GOLDWATER Republican, and proud of it (for a little info on the subject, check out Barry Goldwater on Wikipedia). Purrrrrs, R.R.
That was just so rude. I am not a Clinton supporter and I don't like her much as a person, but in heaven's name! I would never ever belittle, bad mouth, or wear such a garment. I wouldn't even wear a shirt like that about Bush. I have made no bones about how I feel about him and I have practiced hard being civil.
Being a middle ground Independent, I see nearly the same amount of ignorant Dems as I see Repubs. Ignorant isn't a party trait. It's a stupid trait . There is a fraction in both parties that have become extremists and have left the true roots of their chosen party.
It seems being not of either party, I do hear some disturbing things from both parties time to time that are bias and have no foundation. Dems are not lazy dirty poor people wanting handouts because they choose to associate themselves with the Democrat Party - no more than Repubs are snobby rich people who don't care if you starve because they choose to associate themselves with the Republican Party.
There is a part of American History that weighs on my mind each election. I will always keep in remembrance which President proclaimed all races of persons equal that finally led our great nation in the right direction and his Vice President that tried to null and void it. These persons are Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson. We owe our equality of all races and the close possibility of our first elected black president in 2008 to a Republican. If Andrew Johnson and the Plantation Owners had their way after Lincoln's assassination and got their slaves back, you would have owed that to the Democrats.
Our country isn't taking a hot trip in a hand basket because of a party majority in the White House. It is because we keep electing in the wrong people.
I am extremely grateful of the non-bias attitude of my Dem and Rebub friends/family toward the other party. My friends/family are split pretty evenly between Dems and Repubs, and I am happy to see that they vote the issues and not the party when the other is the better man/woman. ( I am happy to say that not a one of them voted Bush - including the first time).
This will be a interesting election this year. Nearly all of my Dem friends and Repub friends are considering crossing party lines. I guess that is a sign we have had enough White House nonsense of both parties?
Members in this group ask me often why I am an Independant. I made my choice to be an Independent when I was a young child, because it isn't about being a member of a party ... it is about being an American.
