Hi Fellow Ragdolls,

My new brother (who is a Himalayen), Jasper, came home yesterday and I am not taking it well. I am extremely scared and been hissy I even scratched my mommy's face. Is this normal? I really want to love my brother, but right now it is difficult. Any advice would be great on how work on this bond. Thanks!

Gabby,
This is perfectly natural. If Jasper has not been placed in a room alone to start with, this will probably make things a bit more tense for the next few weeks.
Tell Mommy to expect loads of hissing, growling, acting out behavior on your part. This could include not using the litterbox, not eating, etc You also might not eat like you used to and you might hide a great deal.
The safest way to introduce a new kitty is to have them confined to an area where cats can be aware of each other, yet not meet right away. They can smell each other under a doorway, get used to another kitty in the home without the feeling of invasion. More than likely, it will be the already existing family cat that will have the issues, so the best bet is that when they are allowed to be in each other's presence, it should be with human supervision. That being said, the calmer the human acts, the least likely the cats will get nervous as well.
Hope it helps,
Magoo

You are such a pretty tortie bicolor Gabriel. In addition to the advice above, I'd also say make sure your Momma doesn't disrupt your routine. It helps if she feeds, grooms and plays with you at consistent times so you know you're not being usurped.

I agree with the above. When my brother and I came to live with 3 other pups and another cat we were horrified at first. But Mum kept us in our own little room with heaps of playtoys for a couple of days before even introducing us. It let the puppies (well dogs I guess, not babies anymore) get use to having our smell in the house, then she started to put our beds and sleeping blankets in the lounge room for the day, and the dogs use to smell and roll on the blankets. Then take one of the resident cats blankets and put it in the room with the new baby...It just helps the adjustment period a little easier.

Lots of luck!
