Hi, I'm Felix. I'm a 2 (almost 3) year old tabby/maine coon mix. I'm mostly maine coon though. I love my mommy/owner/interperator and give her tons of head butts of love (which supposidly hurt cause I get carried away and give her the biggest head butts ever).
Well, my nose problem is that while here my first year (I was brought in at 4 weeks old), a rat bit my nose. I had a chunk of my nose missing for a while, but it's all better now. Thing is, I get really stuffy and my poor mommy has to clean my nose a lot (almost every day really). I also sneeze a lot now and when I do sneeze, there's usually a long thing of snot that gets stuck to my face. Good thing my mommy loves me so much.
I know she gets annoied cleaning my nose of old and crusted snot that if she didn't clean would end up making it very very very hard to breathe. But she cares enough to do it everyday. I give her lots of love, head butts of love, and cuddles in return though.
So, we'd like to know more about you. What's all of your stories? What's your nose problem?
Hi I'm Cleo I (before I met my mommy) was dumped outside in the middle of winter. After I was found and nobody claimed me, my mommy came and got me from the humane society. I had a cold, and after MANY vet trips I found out I have a forever stuffy nose because I was an outside kitty and caught a nasty virus. I also sneeze boogers all over the house. Mommy has to wipe my nose, and she uses nose drops to help me keep it clear, but it still gets stuffy. Sometimes mommy worries about how this will affect me when I get older.
Hi, my name is Boots, and I am a snot nose. I am somewhere between the ages of 9 and 14...we're not really sure. I've got bad teeth so it's sort of hard to tell.
My first owner was an old lady who had me declawed on all four feet, so I can never, ever go outside...except sometimes my daddy lets me go out on the balcony when he's out there. It's way up on the 3rd floor, and I'm definitely not going to jump. I like to go out and sit in my chair out there. Anyway, the old lady I first lived with, she got sick and couldn't take care of me anymore, so she gave me to a supposed no-kill shelter. I lived there for 18 months, during which time I got a hematoma on one of my ears, and I ended up with a shriveled up cauliflower ear on the right side. After 18 months and no new home, the shelter couldn't afford to take care of me anymore, so they gave me to the Humane Society.
While I was at the Humane Society, I lived in a cage locked up with other cats. At least the no-kill shelter let all of us kitties live in a big, open area with no cages. I am really afraid of cages now, and I also suffer from abandonment issues. My vet says I have OCD and separation anxiety disorder, and I take medicine for that. I potty in my carrier every time I have to go somewhere because I'm always scared.
I had been in the Humane Society for about 6 months when, one day, a very nice couple came in looking to adopt a cat. Something about a mouse in their house...I don't know. I never see them, except for they keep some sort of rodent in a cage on the dresser. I have always wondered why get a cat to take care of rodents if you're going to keep one as a pet. Humans are weird. Anyway, this nice couple ended up taking me home and are now my "mom" and "dad".
There are 2 other cats who live in our house. Nefertiti is like 3 years old, and she's an Egyptian Mau. She's really pretty, and has both her ears, unlike me. I had a hematoma on my left ear in October 2006, and had to have surgery to fix it, and now it lays flat all the time. Someone once said I look like a "scottish fold". Anyway, Nefi is pretty cool. She doesn't bother me, in fact she sticks up for me alot with the other cat, Dudley. Dudley is 10 months old, and he is a Maine Coon cat. He's pretty big already, and he plays pretty rough sometimes.
I suffer from pretty severe allergies, and I have to have shots 3 times a week to control them. I also get a bath once a week with a special shampoo, because I get dandruff from my allergies. That's where my nose problems come in.
I have a forever runny nose, and I sneeze alot, and I drool alot in my sleep. I breathe through my mouth most of the time because my nose is always stuffy, and I snore.
That's about all for me right now. I sure wish I could have an unstuffy nose, but I'm destined to be snotty forever.
Hi evfurryone!
I can't remember how long I've had my nose issues, but I think it's been a couple of years now. I get all congested and have a hard time breathing and sneeze and cough alot. Sometimes mommy thinks I'm running a temperature because I sleep a lot and stay quiet. I get allergy pills, but they don't really work that well.
Now mommy has been reading about Rhinotracheitis, a virus kitties get that can cause my exact symptoms. There's some kind of vitamin supplement that is supposed to help and she wants to learn more about it and see if it will help me.
Does anyone know about this or use it? It's called L-lysine.
We tried L-lisine, but since I am a picky-picky I only eat dry food, and it is hard to get it in me. I also have tried Nose Relief which is made by HomeoPet, mom also uses vicks plug ins at times to help, and take me into the bathroom when she showers. Nothing seems to really help-it just cuts it back. I always end up sneezing goop all over the place. Mommy says she wishes she could suck it out with one of those baby bulb things that mommies use for little babies' noses. She also is trying to find a way to deal with all my boogers I leave all over my bed, and carpet...well I leave them on her bed too, but at least she can wash the sheets.
