I have a weight problem and was put on Purina OM and meowmy thinks that's what sent me into diabetes. Now I'm eating Wellness grain free canned and sometimes a little CORE dry.
This is all so new to meowmy and me, we're a little nervous about how we'll do, but I'm glad we found this forum and all you guys for support.
I go back next week for another blood test to see how I'm doing. I'll keep you posted.
Purrs,

| Purred: Fri Mar 14, '08 7:54am PST | | | | | | Hi, Cocoa! Glad you made it here! Like I said on the forum, I eat Purina DM dry and Innova EVO dry (which mom got as it was much cheaper than Wellness CORE), along with various canned types, from Friskies and Fancy Feast to Wellness grain-free. I didn't care for the EVO canned (which was 2 bucks a can--ouch!) but I do like the Wellness canned. Mom likes to give me variety on the canned, which is nice.
I get my blood glucose checked at home, and the last one a few days ago was 90. I've been staying between 75 and 100 since about the 28 of December, without insulin.

There doesn't seem to be much action in this group. Maybe the diabtetic kitties are too tired to post? MOL
Anyway, like I asked in my other post, does anyone know if sweet potatoes in the canned food like Wellness is bad for us diabetics?
I'm eating Wellness grain-free canned food and it's low carb, but it has sweet potatoes in it and meowmy read that diabetic kitties shouldn't have them. Anyone know?
We live in a small town and there isn't any pet stores here that sell the good food, so the closest place (40 mi. away) has Wellness, so that's what we decided to get, and the fact it's grain-free and low carb. We just want to know about the sweet potatoes. If I shouldn't be eating food with them, we'll have to start looking for something else.
I hope to meow with other diabetic kitties too, so join in furbuddies!

From what I'm reading, the sweet potatoes shouldn't raise your blood sugar too much. Does your mom test your sugar at home? That way she could see if any particular food was having an effect. I like the Wellness canned, too, and I love my EVO dry.
The forums here are pretty quiet, the message area gets a little more response.

Mayor of my- block! |
| Purred: Sat Apr 5, '08 6:55pm PST | | | | | | Hi Cocoa! I am new too and newly diagnosed.
So far, my vet is having my mom diet control me, it seems to be working. I eat Science Diet Prescription W/D. It's high in fiber, which is supposed to be good for me they say. But I have been doing a lot of research too and my mom let's me have Fancy Feast wet food too (yay my favorite!). It's scary b/c some websites say wet food is the best (low carb, high protein) and others say that it raises the blood sugar.
I don't know, but so far I am doing well and they don't say that I need insulin now.

| Purred: Sun Apr 6, '08 1:35pm PST | | | | | | Hi, Smokey!
Momma went to felinediabetes.com and printed out the food charts listing the proteins, fats and carbs. Since I am very picky and won't eat anything seafood, we are limted to the beef and poultry selections. There is also a list of gluten free Fancy Feast varieties. I am doing well so far, diet controlled. But, I too, occasionally snack on my brother's and sister's dry food. Then I don't act like myself 100%. Mommy takes the lists with her when shopping for my food. Then she watches how I respond to the flavor and makes marks next to ones I like and ones I don't.
